Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Congressional Floor Speeches Have Gotten “Dumber”

    2012-05-21 17:36:11View | Delete

it is generally the most moderate members of both parties who speak at the highest grade levels

Moderates obfuscate to conceal the fact that they have no coherent political philosophy or moral compass.

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Obama Confirms Support of Marriage Equality

    2012-05-09 22:35:00View | Delete

Some of Obama’s best friends are homosexual, though he wouldn’t want his daughter to marry one.

    2012-05-03 10:01:12View | Delete

To a large extent is was (and continues to be) the government’s fault! If the Legislature bows to corporate lobbying and weakens regulatory laws by passing, for example, the deregulatory Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act. And Justice refuses to enforce the existing laws against the actions of unscrupulous banksters, why should the fat cats not take advantage of [...]

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Obama’s Job Rating Continues to Improve Slowly

    2012-05-01 08:14:53View | Delete

This poll says more about ignorance and apathy. There are still too many people getting their information from the Military-Industrial-Government complex propaganda networks.

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post CA: Three Strikes Reform Likely to Go Before the Voters

    2012-04-27 16:58:57View | Delete

Now if we could get rid of Proposition 13 in CA our schools could go back to being among the best in the nation instead of at the bottom. Further,we could reduce those regressive hidden taxes that are imposed as fees, and go back to a UC system that was once affordable to the financially modest classes.

    ——–
*Before Prop 13 commercial real estate paid 75% of the property tax. After Prop 13 they pay 25%. Before Prop 13 those who wanted to raise revenue and those that did not had an equal vote. After Prop 13 the vote by those who don’t want to raise revenue counts twice as much as the vote by those who do.

Shairdawelth commented on the diary post How Many Supreme Court Justices Can Dance on the Head of a Pin? by Janet Rhodes.

    2012-04-23 17:25:29View | Delete

“How many Supreme Court pinheads can dance on justice?”

As of December 2000, the answer was “nine.”

Nine can, but it only takes five. Or, four + one dittohead.

Shairdawelth commented on the diary post Former ALEC Supporters Now Find Connection Toxic by Rebekah Wilce.

    2012-04-22 11:03:52View | Delete

How difficult is it for a corporation (or corporate executive) to donate money to ALEC under the table, i.e., without public knowledge?

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Congress Slightly Less Unpopular

    2012-04-19 10:18:36View | Delete

I never understood the Congress poll. You could hate the things one party is doing in Congress and love the things the other party is doing. How would you respond to the poll?

(Since I hate both major parties my response, should I’m ever asked, is predictable.)

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Looking at Our Budget and Our Actual Needs

    2012-04-06 10:36:40View | Delete

Corporate welfare is not part of the budget because we give them our money by reducing their taxes, doling out subsidies, and allowing offshore headquarters among other things. The enormous costs of our wars doesn’t appear on the budget either. Restricting the discussion of our national economic state to the budget is like typing on a keyboard with over half the keys stuck.

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post The Anti-Laffer: New Research Shows Tax Cuts Don’t Help Growth, Tax Increases Don’t Hurt Growth

    2012-03-28 16:05:38View | Delete

    Eduardo Porter’s wrote:

It is true that high-income Americans carry the biggest tax burden.

Which is bullshit! A burden is proportional to your ability to carry it. The rich pay a smaller portion of their income in taxes than the middle class and poor do. And I’m referring to all taxes combined (not merely federal income tax).

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Conservatives at SCOTUS Harshly Question Mandate; Kennedy Probably Holds Deciding Vote

    2012-03-27 12:30:32View | Delete

How is this different from the law that makes you buy car insurance? Is that not a mandate?

I agree because owning a car in my neck of the woods is essential to having a job, for example. Since the state requires car insurance then the state should provide a low cost alternative to private insurance. The same goes for health insurance. If the US government requires health insurance then the government should provide a low cost alternative. Medicare for all who want it!!

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Huge: California Dems are all in to defeat Amendment One in NC

    2012-03-20 06:36:29View | Delete

This is an example of how the Democrats can be on the right side of an issue as long as their corporate masters don’t care about the issue.

Not good enough for me any longer.

Yes, either reveal who said it, or don’t write about it. Anonymity should only be given to the powerless who are revealing something illegal or pernicious about the powerful.

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Why Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe’s Decision Not to Run Is Great News for Democrats

    2012-02-29 12:28:02View | Delete

One aspect of the growing polarization and unification of political parties in America

I’m not sure what you mean by that quote, unless you are suggesting that both major parties are unifying and moving toward the upper (authoritarian) right (global, corporate controlled economic system) corner of the Political Compass.

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Berman-Sherman Debate Degrees of Belligerence Toward Iran

    2012-02-22 12:02:17View | Delete

Brad Sherman has been my rep since he first took office in 1997. He is willing to drive the US over an economic/moral cliff to support the misguided goals of conservatives in Israel. Of course, most of our fighting is done by gentiles of the lower classes.

I wonder how many young men from affluent Jewish families Brad Sherman would be willing to sacrifice in some other part of the world unrelated to Israel?

    2012-01-27 11:12:06View | Delete

I am finally to the point where the lesser of two evils is still too evil.

You’ve expressed my feelings succinctly! I’ll steal it for personal oral communication if you don’t mind.

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post Late Night: We LOVE LA! City Council Votes to End Corporate Personhood

    2011-12-07 00:59:31View | Delete

Those of us who belong to a political party need to attend local party meetings and get elected as delegates, then demand a litmus test for our parties candidates that they promise to advocate and vote for the repeal of corporate personhood. No promise, no support.

Shairdawelth commented on the blog post UC Davis Chancellor Called to Resign After Police Pepper Spray Students

    2011-11-19 11:37:00View | Delete

The USA is one of the best entertained and least informed societies. We are also, by design and as a result of the two party system, one of the most politically divided.

For those reasons I think there will be a lot of pain inflicted before the masses awaken and/or unite to push for freedom. There was a great deal of violence and murder inflicted by the established powers on the labor and civil rights movements. Those victim heroes suffered greatly, but not in vain.

I salute the brave demonstrators at UC Davis. May more come forward.
