  • And he certainly is fighting for the least-transparent adminstration ever, plus the right to assassinate/indefinitely detain US citizens, not to mention the rest of the world. My HERO, the Constitutional SCHOLAR.

Needs to be on a billboard somewhere. Great post and great comments. Good for FDL. David, prepare to be deluged with negative commentary a la Matt Stoller from his recent Salon piece.

  • One or two props to Chris Kluwe, who has been outspoken on this subject. http://bit.ly/Re20S3

Margaret you are correct, at least as far as I am concerned. He’s another Ben Nelson. Did hear on local news tonight about some scandal regarding the Republican (Tea Party backed) opponent about her abusing her seat in the Unicameral to pass legislation to mess with neighbors trying to sell land to Fish and Game. Apparently, she and husband wanted that land for themselves.

Not sure it will make any difference at all: neither this commercial nor the news story.

  • You are exactly correct. David Dayen does an excellent job reporting the absurdities of this administration, especially concerning the financial fraud that is still being allowed to flourish. I call “bullshit” on Obama, and the Democratic Party, of which I am no longer a member.

Even if Obama was not still talking about the “grand bargain” to further screw the poor and the old, he would not get my vote under any circumstances. I voted for “hope and change,” although I knew he would not be liberal enough to suit me. Instead I got a self-annointed King for the “Game of Drones.” To mix my literary metaphors, I also ain’t real impressed with the “eye of Sauron” being constructed in Mordor (aka Bluffdale, Utah.)

When a hostage situation in a small town in Nebraska brings out an armoured vehicle that is now owned by the State Patrol, one could say the police state is not coming…it is already here.

“It makes no difference who you vote for–the 2 parties are really one party representing 4% of the people.” Gore Vidal. youtube.com/watch?v=A80W3ZVBJ_g @ 6:34 in the video

  • Excellent, thorough piece. Wait a minute or two, and someone will call you a “rape apologist.”

Thanks also for your continuing work regarding Bradley Manning and the protests at the corporate conventions.

  • X3 or more. Who is the artist? Can I get a T-Shirt? That would raise a bunch of money to send Kevin back to cover the Bradley Manning “trial.”

  • Pretty hard to die fom medical error if one does not have insurance/medicaid/medicare coverage to obtain medical care. Or be independently wealthy, of course.

  • nice summary of the charges.

Kevin, thank you for your reporting on these issues. It is much appreciated.

Your second paragraph is a perfect summation of the results of LOTE voting. Rosanne Barr and Cindy Sheehan are running on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket. Lots of 3rd party choices, IMHO. Pick one.

  • “Obama could still save himself if he had the spine for it. He could take on the big banks, fire Geithner, stop punishing people for using MJ, etc. There are so many things he could do without the consent of Congress but I doubt that he’s that smart.”

I don’t doubt that he lied about all of this. And anyone who is still calling him an expert on the Constitution needs psychiatric care. Also, he is every bit as willing to destroy SSMM as Romney. He keeps offering it up, but the Republicans are too stoopid to say “yes.”

  • Registered and voted as a Democrat my entire life, but have now unregistered. I keep waiting for the Democrats to start “wooing” me as an unaffiliated voter. Instead, I keep getting fundraising crap from them. They are fortunate that I have quit sending it back duck-taped to a brick.

  • I will be voting 3rd party, because there is almost nothing left to lose. Romney’s Supreme Court nominees might be worse, but maybe the Dems in the Senate will find some gonads, or maybe they will be VERY SIMILAR to Elena Kagan, so who cares? Romney will keep warmongering, but so will Obama. Obama has already gone insane on the security state and upped the ante on violations of the Constitution and civil liberties. Transparency? Don’t make me laugh. Prosecuting whistleblowers? Please. Programs for the poor? Obama can barely mention the middle class more than once every 6 months.

He’s doing exactly what he believes in and wants to do, and nothing will be changing if he is re-elected. Maybe something will change in the Dems or a third party will rise if Romney hands him his ass.

So why do we never hear this song on July 4? We get Ludwig Van and the 1812 Overture, lots of J. P. Sousa, who is at least a murrican, and Lee Greenwood. Something is wrong with this picture, and I have been watching it for several hours now.

There have been several large ones so far in the western Nebraska panhandle. The real fun should start on Monday, when the state allows fireworks to be sold and blown up until the 4th of July. Nary a suggestion heard about maybe cancelling or limiting this insanity due to the dry conditions. Fireworks dealers have [...]

I used to live in Durango, and the last time I visited Mesa Verde (2007) I was very struck by the extent of the devastation from earlier fires. Watching Channel 9 News from Denver right now, as there is no local NBC affiliate, and it sounds as if there are now fires all over Colorado. [...]

  • I initially skimmed this article, because I really did not want to see the details. I know (in the back of my head) how horrifying this situation is. How did anyone survive 20, 30, 40 plus years in solitary. This is a disgrace, but the PIC is making money hand over fist, so nothing will [...]

  • Thank you for the Simon and Garfunkel, and the Paul Simon solo. Genius.

  • I work in the mortgage servicing industry. Loan modifications are a cruel hoax. You need to be working for principal reductions, and restoring to bankruptcy judges the power to order same. Otherwise, more Kabuki.

  • Good for you! I keep hearing we need to “take over’ the Democratic Party starting at the local level. When even that is (apparently) futile, what is the option? Unregistered as a Democrat, for the first time in my long voting career, and re-registered as “unaffiliated” (I think that is the Nebraska option.)

Not planning on voting for anything national with a “D” after its name, including Bob Kerrey and the Peace Laureate. I will have to wait to see what might pop up on the Nebraska ballot, but there is always the write-in option. I am DONE with the Blue Dogs, the DLC, and the “one party-the party of wealth with 2 branches.”
