As always, most of us really appreciate your MENA articles and their sum up of life in this evolving world of the middle east. Will this new Pope have any effect in finally bringing justice to the Palestinians?

As always, thanks Tuttle for these chapters on the Israeli-Palestinian peace farce. Noam Chomsky has summarized it all in recent articles available on the Israeli Occupation Archives: Noam Chomsky: “The one state/two state debate is irrelevant as Israel and the US consolidate Greater Israel” Noam Chomsky: “The Obama Doctrine” Noam Chomsky: “Why the Israel-Palestine ‘negotiations’ [...]

Israel continues to pursue its “stall and build” strategy in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and in this matter, Iran still serves as a distraction, as it has for years now. So what’s new. Thanks Tut for keeping us abreast of the latest obfuscations. Iran’s mistake is not talking up its advocacy of Palestinian [...]

  • These alleged facts do not get factored into discussions because they are myths, little more than repeated Israeli propaganda. There was no Israel in 1947 which offered the Palestinians a state in their own homeland, by the way, and Ehud Barak, in a 2005 interview on the Charlie Rose Show, admitted that he would not have been able to get the Camp David 2000 peace plan past the Kenesset, that not even his own party, Labor, would have voted for it. Since 1967, the Israelis have been colonizing the Palestinian territories for the purpose of creating a Greater Israel from the Jordan to the sea, and nothing has changed since then. Their strategy of “stall and build” was first openly announced by PM Shamir, who admitted that he welcomed phony peace negotiations because they would go nowhere.

As for the UN Plan to partition Palestine, it may be noted that 55% of the land was to be given to 550,000 Jews, and 45% to Palestinian Arabs, who numbered 1.2 million in 1948. Why wouldn’t the Palestinians accept? Was it expected the 400,000 Palestinians living in villages on land that was to be turned into Israel, would leave their homes, towns, farms and orchards, schools and governments and enter tent city refugee camps, perhaps in areas given to form a new Palestinian state?

It seems that Ben Gurion solved the problem by initiating the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians two months before the UN General Assembly approved the state of Israel in Palestine. The Israeli militias eventually threw out, by force and fear (ala the massacres), 750,000 Palestinians who ended up in refugee camps in surrounding Arab countries, and the territories not conquered during the subsequent Arab-Israeli War. So what started that war? It is not hard to put together.

By the end of the second week, they claimed up to 14,000 people died and 20,000 were injured, mostly [...]

“Like lambs to the slaughter, the Palestinians are sleep-walking to disaster, again.”

How true, true because the Israelis will never concede to a Palestinian state. But the alternative will also be disastrous, another Intifada, which means another slaughter of Palestinians, adults and children alike.

Thanks as always, Tut, for your work here on their behalf.

PS: During the Clinton administrations, 1992-2000, the number of settlements, as well as the number of Israeli settlers, in the West Bank and Gaza DOUBLED. Some Palestinian observers have claimed that no American president did more damage to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process than Clinton. Who can disagree? Mondoweiss just published an article on the false “generous offer” by Israeli PM Ehud Barak in 2000 at the end of the Clinton administration. It is part of Israel’s strategy for colonizing the Palestinian territories while conducting peace talks, that has been public at least since the administration of Israeli PM Shamir: stall and build. And no one has been better at it than Netanyahu.

  • Jonathan Cook has published (Mondoweiss) an excellent analysis of what Kerry’s (Israel’s) next strategy for passifying the Palestinians and stalling any talk about statehood.

Kerry’s plan: Palestinians to be cast as fall guys – again

Socialism is socialism. As far as Obamacare is concerned, it is far from the government run programs seen in Canada or Britain or any other EU country, but it is government regulated, a first step. Perhaps it all can, one day, be transformed into a universal Medicare program for everyone. It would save big bundles [...]

Happy to see that you’re writing again, Fairleft. Have a good holiday season. Did you say that socialists are not Democrats? Historically, it is the establishment and defense of liberal-socialism that makes us Democrats. True, that socialized medicine has been slow in developing, but it is in his contribution, Obamacare, that makes Obama a liberal-socialist as well. There have been Republicans who have contributed (T. Roosevelt, progressive income [...]
