SJGulitti commented on the diary post Beyond Benghazi by SJGulitti.
Newsworthy and relevant: State Dept. turns over Benghazi documents: http://thehill.com/blogs/global-affairs/middle-east-north-africa/304317-state-dept-turns-over-benghazi-documentsFacebook To wit: “Psaki said nearly all the documents turned over Friday had been previously shared with the committee and released publicly. She also suggested that the subpoena was an attempt by congressional Republicans to politicize the attack. “Unfortunately, the documents provided today will not advance [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: Beyond Benghazi
As we navigate our way through this season of political scandal there are questions which have begun to arise, surrounding events in Benghazi, as to motives, both on the part of the supposed architects of failure and those likewise ascribed to their accusers. The Benghazi affair is both fraught with conflicting stories and muddled facts [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: The IRS Scandal and the False Hope of Tea Party Revival
Amid all of the sound and fury bubbling up from the IRS examination of the various conservative organizations there’s hope among the Tea Party faithful that this controversy will somehow breathe new life into their movement. But will it be enough to reinvigorate a movement considered to be in disarray, if not politically stalled? Yes [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: Clueless Ann Romney
I could only laugh when I heard the would be first lady publicly declare that there was a serious breach of trust between the White House and the American people. Did Ms. Romney ever stop to think about the fact there was never a bond of trust to begin with between those same Americans and [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: The Intellectual Dishonesty of William Kristol
No American with a basic understanding of this country’s military history could not have been anything but taken aback by William Kristol’s intellectually dishonest criticism of this statement in President Obama’s second inaugural speech: “But we are also heirs to those who won the peace and not just the war, who turned sworn enemies into [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: A Solidly Republican House Crashes Down on Grover Norquist
At this point all I can do is laugh when I think about how some of my friends on the far right were naive as to think that sensible Republicans in Congress had failed to heed the message of the 2012 election and the current political realities borne therefrom. The latest development in the fiscal [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: The Growing Revolt Against Grover Norquist
Two weeks ago I penned a short piece titled “Grover Norquist Collateral Casualty of 2012?” where I broached the question of whether or not Norquist would become a casualty as a result of the coming fiscal cliff negotiations and where I said, “…look for Grover Norquist to politically take a major hit in the resolution [...] -

And then this: “Obama claims mandate on taxes, warns Republicans of new political capital”; http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/268009-obama-claims-mandate-on-taxes-warns-gop-of-new-political-capital To wit:”Obama made it clear he wants to use his political capital immediately, citing his victory in claiming a mandate on the looming fiscal cliff of automatic spending cuts and tax increases. He said his insistence on higher taxes for [...]

Further to our conversation here: 1) Norquist tax pledge takes election hit; http://thehill.com/homenews/house/267467-norquist-pledge-takes-election-hit- To wit: ” Republicans might have held the House, but Grover Norquist’s majority in Congress is all but gone. Fewer incoming members of the House and Senate have signed the pledge against tax increases run by Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform, in [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: Grover Norquist Collateral Casualty of 2012?
In light of the election post mortems taking place among conservatives, perhaps no one is more delusional, with the exception of Karl Rove, than Grover Norquist. Norquist, a high priest of limited government, is having nothing to do with the reality borne of Mitt Romney’s defeat. Rather than to see in that defeat the rejection [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: Conservatives at a Dead End?
Election day has finally arrived and to true conservatives the final outcome will probably be nothing more than a mixed blessing at best. First and foremost Mitt Romney is hardly a rock ribbed conservative, not if you base your assessment of him on his political track record. He has migrated politically from a Northeastern liberal [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: Can Mitt Romney Fix the Economy?
When Barack Obama first took office economist Ken Rogoff, who served on the International Monetary Fund and at the Federal Reserve, warned the president that the 2008 downturn was no ordinary event. Rogoff advised Obama that downturns resulting from bursting financial bubbles took a minimum of five years to resolve. That meant that recovery wouldn’t [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: Mitt Romney and Autumn’s Black Swan
In nature black swans are a rarity. In the world of politics and economics they represent rare surprise events that have significant consequences. Of late the term black swan gained renewed currency when economist Nouriel Roubini said that economic crises weren’t “black swan events” but events that could be predicted by observing “macroeconomic and policy [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: C’mon Mitt, Privatizing Disaster Relief Would be a Disaster
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, with the upcoming election a factor, one thing is apparent and that is that Mitt Romney is no better off at figuring out disaster relief than he was at figuring out who constitutes our geopolitical enemies. You see Romney is busy backpedaling on his earlier comments about shutting down [...]

SJGulitti commented on the diary post Romney & Co., Beyond the Pale in Politicizing Benghazi by SJGulitti.
As far as to who knew what and when, this article suggests that what truly happened is, as of yet, not fully known,: Election-Year Stakes Overshadow Nuances of Libya Investigation; http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/16/world/africa/election-year-stakes-overshadow-nuances-of-benghazi-investigation.html?pagewanted=1&ref=todayspaper

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: Romney & Co., Beyond the Pale in Politicizing Benghazi
I fully understand that Mitt Romney and his lieutenants want to capitalize on any and every political opportunity that comes their way, but in the case of the Benghazi deaths have they gone too far? Ambassador Chris Stevens’ father has come out and asked that the Romney campaign cease and desist in politicizing his son’s [...]

SJGulitti wrote a new diary post: October 16th Talking Points For President Obama
As an avid observer of national politics I’ll be honest and admit that President Obama’s last debate performance was nothing short of abysmal. What I find particularly frustrating about Barack Obama in general, and in his performance in the last debate in particular, is that he continues to fail to counterpunch with some very basic [...] -
SJGulitti commented on the diary post Mitt Romney: Conservative Trojan Horse or Political Chameleon? by SJGulitti.
True but I feel that if Obama shifts too far too the left at this point he’ll open himself up to the same critique that he’s been routinely leveling against Romney. Thus if Obama’s natural base sits this out it will be entirely understandable.
