    It is clear that the order was to kill OBL. And the reason had less to do with the pathos of revenge than with eliminating the likely domestic (US, that is) political implications of his capture. Can you imagine the politics of figuring out where to hold BL? Should he be tried in US court or military tribunal? Etc. Obama’s political foes would have exploited the situation thoroughly. By killing BL, Obama minimizes any leverage his opponents might seize and maximizes the political capital that he will gain from BL’s demise. Obama is in campaign mode, after all, and campaigning is clearly what Obama does best.
