Our plutocrats are very good at promoting these anti-social notions in their perpetual propaganda blast at us. The more we distrust each other the easier it is to scam us. Our plutocrats love government, it is the pot of gold at the end of their rainbow. It is the great device by which they can plunder and manipulate us. Our collective fear and ignorance will keep the scam going.

I forgot to point out that one of the cool things about this approach is that the corps not selected benefit from a competitor going down so they will have mixed feelings about the whole thing – happy to see one of their own go down, but hoping they aren’t next.

As you point out, collective economic power is one of the few power levers the 99% have left. I would suggest a very focused boycott, one where we make a big deal out of collectively selecting the target corp. and then collectively taking that corp. down (legally of course) while looking after the people (99% types) impacted adversely as much as possible. Then we make a big deal (ex: American Idol but the Idol is the most evil corp. in this case) out of which corp. the people should target next. This form of economic terror targeting the 1% by the 99% could be quite effective and hard to stop.

I agree, BofA is the easy pick. Maybe FDL can do a poll.

Targeting 1 bank will be much more effective – divide and conquer. If we can do real harm to 1 bank and scare the crap out of the others, we will have serious leverage. The demand? 1) Not allow banks to have any contact of any type with the political process 2) Enforce this by hiring thousands of OWS supporters and people who lost their jobs at the target bank to monitor the bankers and 3) Pay for it with a financial transaction tax and a windfall profits tax on all bank profits since the crash/bailout. 4) Investigate and prosecute ‘em. Happy days are here again.

The protestors are brave heroes for putting themselves on the line like this for the greater good. Thank you! One of the most effective things we can do is boycott one bank. This could be devastating to that one bank, totally legal, unstoppable and part of a divide and conquer strategy. The other banks will be torn between supporting the target bank and getting their business. If OWS can bring down a major bank, OWS and we the people have a seat at the table and can start to make real demands… like people in any way affiliated with Wall Street banks cannot have any contact of any kind with the political process. This law would be enforced by hiring thousands of well paid OWS watchdogs and financed through a new financial transaction tax and windfall profits tax on any profits made since the bailout. Lets pick a bank and crash it.

  • Mr: Gosztola: You are doing a great job covering #OWS, but you need to keep your eye on the ball. The problem is not Dems that want to co-opt and/or neuter the movement. The problem is Wall Street, the guys who bought our government. Everything needs to be about wresting control of our government from these criminals and the Dems could in fact be our useful idiots.

Obama will give the Republicans everything they want and destroy Social Security and Medicare on their behalf. This is just a pitifully late, half-effort to tell liberals that Obama has their back in order to stanch the bottom dropping out of his ratings. The big capitualtion is signed, sealed and delivered.

Obama is a Republican in drag and oh what a drag it is.

  • Nice of these putz’s to draw the line on self-reliance at people lacking the means to do so. They only like government as something to plunder, otherwise it’s all corps. and churches.

I would add that for every big corp. boycott target, we offer a co-op alternative though this is obviously a bit idealistic and perhaps not very transpartisan. Though really, what good objection would a right leaning transpartisan have to people owning capital vs. government manipulating capitalists?

Corps. are targeted for the most egregious government manipulation on their own behalf. Trash the democracy, reap the windfall, hurt people and we will hurt you back.

The end is a functioning democracy, but the means are fighting on turf where we have a chance to win. We have virtually no chance in our very compromised electoral system, but we do have a chance where big corps. are hoping to avoid being the next big boycott target.

Neither our government nor our media are serving the American citizen. They exclusively serve big money. The problem is not the center, right or left. The problem is that the country has been bought and paid for (very inexpensively too) and we are going to continue to see our quality of life diminish until we [...]
