You’ve made a huge difference, Pam. You have been a daily must-read for me for a couple of years now, and I often forward your posts to friends and family because you make your case in such an honest and elegant way.

I can’t imagine what you’re feeling in the wake of that awful vote in NC. I remember feeling heartbroken after Prop. 8 won in California, and I live in a state (Massachusetts) where my marriage is entitled to legal protection.

I wish I could offer you more than a “hang in there,” but I can’t. All I can say is that your voice is a prominent and important one in our struggle, and I thank you for that.

  • Well said, as always.

“Kerry occasionally invited members of the group to dine with him at his Georgetown home, and members would negotiate over Legal Sea Foods and Cosi sandwiches.” Oh my! How delightful! *gags* As a Massachusetts liberal, I have grown to despise John Kerry. As he has come into his old age (and mind-boggling wealth courtesy of [...]

I think Wall Street has gotten some form of private assurance that Obama will step in and use the 14th Amendment option.

Also, doesn’t Judd Gregg always looks like someone just dropped a chainsaw on his head? He’s as stupid and venal a New Hampshire tree stump as I’ve ever known.

Knox: It looks increasingly like you’re going to be right. When I saw Joan Walsh’s idiotic essay on Salon last night, I realized that the feeding frenzy probably wasn’t going to stop until Weiner resigned.

Sorry…should have read “home state of Louisiana,” not “New Orleans,” above.

Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., may not be the greatest legislator in the world, but does he need to be run out of office because of his thoroughly legal sexual behavior? No. Sure, Weiner was stupid to send dick pics to women via the internet, but he didn’t commit any crimes, and he’s no hypocrite. And [...]

I like what you’ve said. It’s not logical for FDL to simultaneously solicit membership donations and unilaterally delete comments for “boorishness.” One commenter’s boorishness is another reader’s eloquent criticism, to recycle a chestnut. This is either a public space that welcomes all points of view, or it’s not. It’s not tenable for FDL to hold [...]

My point is that an interactive space like FDL should remain open and censorship-free as long as any registered member can post comments. Either that, or disable comments. But to insist on having it both ways under some fuzzy and inconsistently enforced standards seems to undermine the whole project. “Harper’s” doesn’t have comments enabled, and [...]

There is never a legitimate reason to unilaterally remove a comment, no matter how abusive or ugly or mean-spirited it may be. Believe it or not, commenters can usually handle–and typically ignore–trolls. FDL should respect its commenters’ 1st Amendment right as if this site were a public forum. And that brings me to my second, [...]
