stevetalbert commented on the blog post Americans Are Expecting to Retire Much Later
So does that mean that those people over 65 who thought they would be retired at 14, meant they expected to be high school drops and now aren’t??! I think that’s a good thing.

stevetalbert commented on the blog post The Insanity of What Hospitals Charge and the Solution No One is Talking About
What it costs has nothing to do with what the clinical outcome is. The cost differential is meaningless without knowing which hospitals were more effective. It might be that the hospital that charges 3 times as much is more than 3 times better in outcomes. Or the most expensive is the worse care… at that point the data means something.

I can see where you were dreaming of Bush. >>> America doesn’t have to be the country that attacks an entire state because of the actions of a small number of people from there. Or worse, the state next to it. That would be kind of crazy.<<< Thanks for not taking a picture of you [...]

stevetalbert commented on the blog post The Rise of Anti-gay Beltway Power Broker Cleta Mitchell – for Her, It’s Personal
Or they themselves are at least bi and think that makes them a Big Homo… like the time Jerry Falwell was on Chris Matthews and he said he made the choice to be straight at 13 when he started dating girls…. LOL
I actually saw that episode… I just now found this from a blog on the internet by Jon Ponder in 2008. It a great overview of the exchange if you missed it.
>>>>Last year, when the late, unlamented Jerry Falwell told Russert’s colleague Chris Matthews on “Hardball” that he believed gay people chose their sexuality, Matthews shocked his detractors by lobbing back an actual hardball.
Matthews asked the old mullah, “Did you choose to be heterosexual?”
Without thinking, Falwell answered, “I did.”
A few seconds later, Matthews returned to the question, asking Falwell how old he was when he chose to be heterosexual. At that point, Falwell appeared to realize he’d been hoisted on the illogical reasoning in one of the foundational tenets of evangelical homophobia — that gay people always “choose” their sexuality but straight people never do. Falwell closed out the discussion by contradicting his earlier statement that he decided to be straight (apparently at age 13, when he started dating) with the diametrically opposite assertion that “I…I never had to decide.”<<<

Most of these people are literally tortured by their mistaken religious beliefs that somehow they are responsible for doing something they were mistakenly taught was against God’s will. (instead of man’s prejudices). Look at ALL the people who are politically strident against gay people and they have a gay child, parent, or ex-spouse. They are overcompensating to try to right some ‘wrong’ they egotistically think only they are responsible for.

I don’t know enough about more plants growing or not, but the real issue to me about climate change is that it can also be described as status quo change. There will be winner, losers, and many things not much affected. How much money do you spend to keep the ocean front consistent in Miami [...]

stevetalbert commented on the blog post KY Sen: Clintons Try to Keep Ashley Judd From Taking on McConnell
We don’t need more Democrats, we need BETTER ones. Maybe those down state races need to be lost. Judd should at least run in the primary so that the issues will at least be talked about. As a country, we are NOT center right as ‘common wisdom’ says. More people DON’T vote than do. I think many more liberal people have given up after seeing generational majorities in 2008 coming after a wave in 2006 (and even in 2010 more Dems than Bush had GOP),, yet those ‘advantages’ were wasted.

Does this reveal mean he has breasts on his back!!??!. Or he can turn his head fully around like Reagan? (The other one… Or maybe both.). Funny, all this time I was thinking his head was somewhere else. Or maybe its a portrait of his lover in the shower like the great Italian renaissance painters. So many questions,, so many facets of wonder. He still should be tried for war crimes.

You are missing the main part about why the GOP purposely ignores how religion plays into it. If you believe in God.. you can’t interfere. Who are you to think you are better and can change it? Man as a steward is interpreted to .mean man (men not women) can do what they want as [...]

stevetalbert commented on the blog post The Right’s loss of the culture war is in extreme slow motion; will it toss its extremists out? Doubt it.
But who decides what is a contribution to society and what is a detriment? This is the exact same argument that the preacher is making. Some peoples’ hate is another persons love. The GOP have shown by their policies and actions that they care nothing about deficits, family values, etc etc. What they care about isthe power to decide. Dems are similar, but they’re worldview more closely matches the one I want to have. A large number of issues now are either/or. You can’t have both and there is nothing in between. The sooner we accept that, the better.
Sometimes I think the better response to anti gay marriage is to use their own goals. Make families string by letting gays marry. Have unrestricted divorce so that only the very strongest marriages remain. Make marriage even stronger by giving universal healthcare. Less financial strain on marriage. There are a number of very simple ways to strengthen marriage.
If they really just want more marriage, then let marriage be merged with partnerships and let anyone marry for any reason.
Ban abortion to protect the child?? How about universal birth control and free healthcare to protect the child. How about protect the living?? Someone’s parent is ALWAYS someone else’s child.
