It is the Holy Grail of photography…How to pack for a trip, how to carry your gear…I have gone through bags, pouches, vests, backpacks, front packs and grandkids…none seems to be the perfect solution…even tho the grandskids were a blast to have around, and I ended up packing everything back…got some great pics tho…

Hmm…I have an old GE floor model, multi band short wave and long wave radio…It was one of my “trainers” in my youth…I used to go around the neighborhood on trash day, picking old radios out of the trash…I used to build radios out of the trash for my friends…old tube radios. I used to take a bunch of old tubes, down to our local grocery store that had a tube tester, and replacement machine…Now you have gone and done it, I have to dig it out and plug it in to see what up…you are so very right about the properties of tubes as opposed to solid state…there are Musicians who are going back to tube driven amps, just for the sound…and it is nice…thanks for the trip down memory lane…

Ah yes…As a person who owns cameras, I would say that sometimes I am just a family person taking snapshots and at other times I am an Artist, a collector of reflected photons…I have had many hours of discussion with my brother, who was a brilliant Artist, about what is art, and where does it come from? He worked with pen and ink, pastels, water colors, pencil, and his work was awesome…I would ask him where does his art come from? He would answer “His Dreams”…As I continue to practice the Art of Photography, I am starting to understand his answer…As I struggle to learn the technical aspects of cameras, I find that same “vision” thing starts to happen…It is the Person behind the equipment. but it helps to have a good lens…

As one who has a dog in the fracking fight, I am still going to work with the local groups who are front and center of the fight for local control of the industry…not just fracking, but the extraction industries…We have had coal mines for over a hundred years in this area…we are not un-familiar [...]

there is an old Japanese saying…When a man works with his hands, he is a workman…when a man works with his hands and his mind, he is a craftsman, but when he works with his hands and heart, he is an artist…My brother, who was an incredible artist in any medium he chose, and I used to talk about “where does your art come from”? He would answer, “from my dreams”…we talked about a cosmic link, and how the eye works, and what is in ones soul when doing art…From the mind, to the hands, to the “work”, is an incredible feat, most folks cannot do it…As a Photographer/Artist, I struggle sometimes with the tech aspect of the photo, just to get the “right” feel, look, or whatever…then again, art is purely subjective…

nice stuff…I have a Unified Theory of Photography…Snapshots, photos, and art…all are the collection of reflected and stray photons…it is up to us humans to decide which is what…I’m just kidding…I ask, do you look at your next photo and think in b&w?? and how does it effect your composition and framing…I know the first three rules of photography…1. lighting 2. lighting and 3. pay attention to rules one and two…if you are interested, my galleries reside at smugmug…

  • Ummm…there is way too much Russian hardware just over the boarder…I don’t think Ukraine is gonna be “Western” much longer..

  • Write it into the State Constitution…the only way to do it…and we are just fine in Colorado…there are still anti-weed groups, who are pulling out all the stops to make weed illegal again…from DUI’s to banning smoking on Federal (our) land…It may taper off after the newness wears off, but the world didn’t end, the Pope is still Catholic, and the country moves on…

In response to the three comments here…Instead of complaining about Americans, of which I am one, vote the gop/baggers out of office…The Koch brothers have been identified as PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE…they have bribed and corrupted agencies in the states, they have used their wealth to spread their lies and mis-information and continue to do [...]

  • Everyone forgets how the neo-cons howled when the Rooskies started to do the same thing in Latin America…

  • Don’t be fooled by this…In Colorado, weed is not truly legal in all the ways it should be…they are going to tax, and regulate it back into the black market…as a matter of fact, counties and towns who have decided not to participate in allowing retail sales are forcing the black market back into action…silly me, thinking these folks are law abiding…

As I peruse your list of reading…which is terrific, by the way, I don’t see much from Fukushima…I keep reading bad things going on in the shadows of government secrecy, then I find sites that are trying to quell any sort of “radiation panic” on the west coast and points east…as the wind blows so to speak…I, sometimes, can’t ‘cipher some of the reports, and are they really real…not to add to your work load or anything….
