  • In the US banks are more prudent when lending to individual State governments. They obviously lend more money to New York than Wyoming. Even so, even if Wyoming were on the verge of bankruptcy, New York would have no problem with the Fed bailing them out because they know all the Fed has to do is turn on the printing press. Wyoming doesn’t care because nobody is going to force austerity on them. The banks don’t care because they get paid. Austerity is surreptitiously forced on the rest of the country via the devaluation of the dollar and most are none the wiser. The problem with the EU is not that they don’t have an effective central bank, or an effective central government. The problem is they don’t have a central printing machine!

you have to look at everything lawmakers and politicians do through your skepticism glasses! This whole Super Committee bull was concocted so that both sides could get cuts that satisfied the bond markets without having to get 60 votes in the Senate and that later on could be used by both sides in an election year to motivate their base. Republicans will accuse Democrats of gutting defense and jeopardizing our national security and Dems will accuse Republicans of trying to eliminate the social safety net to save the rich from being taxed fairly. Remember, none of these cuts takes effect until after the election. These guys are just punting these issues to the voters so they can blame them for either the draconian cuts or increase in taxes that’s coming after the election, depending on who can credibly claim a mandate.

The tax code needs to be changed so that corporate tax rates and deductions for each taxable year are tied to unemployment, adjusted for inflation. In times of high unemployment, tax rates are low and deductions for new hires, plant and equipment are higher. In times of low unemployment, tax rates go up and deductions for new hires, plant and equipment go down. Capital gains rates should be the same as earned income, unless the investment is in corporations that are certified by the IRS as “domestic manufacturing” companies (companies that manufacture 100% of their goods here in the US using materials and components, 50% of which are also manufactured, mined or processed here in the US!). Tax rates for forgien manufacturing companies should be through the roof!

Why is anyone wasting there time arguing with a right wing troll like Backeast? You’ve got a better chance convincing your dog that a bath would be in his best interest.

Reminds me of 1980 when Jimmy Carter gave his “malaise” speech. Like Jimmy, Obama moved too far right in his first term and had to run for re-election in a bad economy. When the base is disillusioned, the incumbent is screwed cause they stay home. The only way they get enthused is by a primary challenge and unless its successful, well, you get someone like Ronald Regan (think Chris Christy).

thats because he foolishly went after healthcare reform and screwed it up. If he had used the democratic majority in congress to repeal the Bush tax cuts and pass a real stimulus package, unemployment would have started to come down by Nov 2010 and the base would have come out to vote.

until the progressive party comes to my congressional district with a viable candidate to challenge the GOP incumbant, I will vote for the lesser of two evils (Spelled O-B-A-M-A). I could never live with myself if I didn’t and Perry were elected president. Until they take money out of politics or we amend the constitution to have a palimentary system, we have no choice but to vote for the lesser evil. Obama may have said he wanted to cut SS, MM/MM but by the time the election is held, you know how much he he allowed to be cut from benefits for those programs? ZERO! How many cuts would Dick Perry have allowed? The system sucks but you can;t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

you give these bozoz too much credit. It was only in 2001 that 19 terroists were taking flying lessons in Florida. In 2007 they finally caught a guy who escaped from prison in 1979! He was living in Tampa working as a cook in a sports bar. He had been arrested twice in the 1990s for driving without a license and possession of pot. They still didn’t put two and two together!

First of all genius, it isn’t in a jobs bill. That was last week($450,000,000 worth of tax cuts and infrastructure projects). Secondly, taxes reduce the deficit by generating “revenue.” You see, a deficit is the difference between revenue and expenditures. When you increase revenue, you decrease the deficit. Its Accounting 101.

None of this is going to happen anyway. This is the part where Obama makes nice to us progressives by “standing his ground” on mm/ss cuts. He proposes tax increases that will never, never, never pass this congress and the trigger kicks in. This cake was baked in August. The real question is, will Obama’s make nice with the base raise his points any?

  • The Republican and Democratic parties represent only weathy ie. industries of banking, insurance, defense contacting, big pharma, energy and, to an increasingly lesser extent, unions. Repulicans dupe the middle and lower classes into voting for them by pandering to their bigotted and racist social concerns, then they go ahead and advance and protect the intersts of those industries anyway. The Democrats dupe the middle and lower classes into voting for them by pandering to their idealistic gullability on both economic and social issues and then, they too, go ahead and advance and protect the intersts of those industries anyway. This is the fatal flaw in a capitilistic democracy. It is the seed of its own demise.
Until elections are publicly funded, nothing will change.

Until private money is taken out of politics, politicians need to raise ungodly amounts of it in order to get elected. Where do you suppose they get it from? Grandma? Those “some in my party” that won’t like medicare cuts? They get it from guys like the Koch brothers, corporations like big banks, big insurance companies, wall street, big oil etc… When you give the kinda money they give to politicians, you own them! This BS about govenment “of the people, for the people and by the people” is fantasy! Just cause Obama is black and calls himself a Dem, don’t get it twisted. He is just another low life, double takin, no conscience, scumbag politican.
