    Well it’s May 11th.
Approximately 2 days after I posted my request for clarification on BSbafflesbrains statements that the middle class is supporting the poor and the rich.
Now since I’ve read his previous comments on other posts I’m going to give BSbafflesbrains the benefit of the doubt and assume he just hasn’t seen my comment yet.

    First, is the statement true?
Well I guess that depends on your perspective. Sure the poor get help. The middle class doesn’t? Mortgage write-offs? Education tuition write-offs? Etc …
And of course the poor have the same availability to use these write-offs. But do they really? Do they have the same opportunities?
But what about SS? I mean if it pays 1230 a month, isn’t that 14760 a year. And isn’t that just above the poverty level of 11,170? (Wonder if the seniors are living it up on that extra 3,590 a year.) I guess all those seniors that that receive the SS average are are also being supported by the middle class.

I mean I think these are basic questions that have been answered a long time ago. And if that’s really as far as the discussion goes, … then F me.

    Second question: Amounts?
Compare subsidies to corporations, the MIC, government workers (BTW, isn’t the middle class also supporting them?), and a whole slew of money thrown at those with power. Compare that to the amount used to actually help people survive. Yes, for the poor it is about survival. For the rest, not so much. For the rich and corporations, it’s just another new house/car per year + all the extra they put in tax havens.

Do I honestly need to spell this out? Yes! In this America you do.
I read that sentence with the middle class supporting the poor and I cringe. A part of me is saddened and disgusted. But after all these years of being aware I resign myself to the fact that this is the way it is now. This kind of thing is not new by any means. It’s just par for the course.

p.s. this is not a dig at the person who wrote it. I only comment because of how normal and natural it is to say such things without even a second thought. I would never write such a thing. But that’s just me.

“The middle class is getting crushed under the strain of supporting both the poor and the rich.”

    Oh reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???

I tell you what, I’ve seen your posts before and I’m going to assume, for now, that’s an oversight/slip-up/error.

Now maybe it’s not, or maybe it is. Can’t read your mind. So please, either,
    a) don’t respond and thereby asserting that what you wrote is what you meant,
    b) respond and affirm your assertion again that yes, what you wrote is what you really meant,
    or
    c) respond and clarify this statement.

I truly and genuinely look forward to this response (or lack thereof).

So he’s just some young, spoiled brat, who wants a piece of the actions and to be noticed? And we should invite him here for Disneyland and photo-ops to placate his ego and arrogance? • Isn’t Karen Lewis, along with the other leaders of the teacher’s union the ones who stopped the striking teachers?
Weren’t they the ones who were railing about the lack of ACs and too many students per class … and then they accepted Rahm’s deal to give the teachers more (but nothing about class sizes or ACs)?

In the long ago thread on this, some said that Rahm would betray them and still close schools and open charters and that this was a giant con to buy-off the teacher’s union leaders and the teachers themselves?

Well they stopped the strike and gave Rahm everything he wanted. Now he can do whatever he wants. And he is. If anyone is surprised by this, including Ms. Lewis, …

They betrayed themselves, their students, and everything they supposedly believed in. Couldn’t happen to a a nicer bunch of sellouts (or complete morons if you want to be generous.
This is just like WI when the leaders of the unions made sure no strike, of any kind would happen. But they sure gave some nice speeches.

Interesting diary and comments. I am curious though, is it possible that “this” status quo can continue indefinitely? What I’m asking is, considering they own the place, the military, the police, and the government (jud, leg, exec, all major depts), instead of a revolt (which IMHO is highly unlikely with such massive delusional thinking of [...]

If a society purposely targets and kills off all those who would want to actually serve society, … then all we’re left with is the Aholes/sociopaths.
And that’s all we have left now. The human animal rules now. The human beings are almost all gone. Any that do “pop-up” intermittently will be “taken care of”.
The age of individualism. Every one out for themselves. Pure human animal – kill or be killed, eat or be eaten, obey the masters or be punished. Being an animal is rewarded. And, in those rare instances when a being appears, they are quickly and efficiently targeted, …

until all we’re left with is the sociopaths who run the system, and the vast majority who are apathetic, willfully ignorant, and who have chosen greed, selfishness, and the “American Exceptionalism” lie as their guiding star.

McGarvey is doing it all wrong.
You have to be more subtle like Trumka or O.
Tell the base what they want to hear, and then do whatever you want for the bennies. Later … F it, you have the bennies, take the money and run.
McGarvey, Trumka, O, and all those like them, are nothing but traitors. It’s like the black slaves who would help their white masters against their own kind. For O, he’s a traitor to black people (although he did cash in very well for stabbing African Americans in the back … how’s that AA unemployment doing?). Trumka and McGarvey are just business men selling their unions to some corporate master. (Of course Trumka also cleaned up well for betraying unions, … 500k a year for betraying his own union brothers and sisters, and don’t you know, he’s always invited to the swank parties, by golly gee the pres even takes his call, and I hear he’s got a nice gig lined up at some nice corporate store or maybe even CoCommerce.)

  • This is simple math people.
    Genius in a way.
Wait till the first teacher shoots a student, armed or unarmed.
The fallout will be … epic.

Think about it. Kill two birds with one stone.
First the kids will always be afraid not knowing who’s packing, but a teacher probably is. No way to know. One kid talks back (ya I know, kids challenging authority, … who would have thunk), and wham, bam, thank you.
    Schools will become a battleground.
    Students will always be afraid.
    Parents will always be afraid.

    Options?
Oh ya, that new private school, that happens to perform as well or even worse, will have private security and the teachers won’t be armed. So send the kids there for actual education. Sure they may be on par with regular schools or even worse, but at least the teachers aren’t packing. One bird.

These teachers are shooting their profession in the head … and they literally don’t know any better. And the public schools will be gutted and the private schools will rise permanently. Bird numero deux.

    Check and mate.
    Dawg loves the the infantry.
