teqwi commented on the blog post Bullies and a pile-up of victims — can we finally address our culture of aggression and violence?
We are doing something terribly wrong in raising our young men they are getting the message that violence is a successful way to get a leg up one-up on someone — or to force compliance rather than communicate or negotiate.
Generally that message is communicated through child abuse – physical, sexual, and psychological child abuse.
Those born with the so-called warrior gene that makes them more prone to violence seem to cope gently with life unless they are abused when young and then self-medicate with alcohol or drugs.
End the rampant child abuse and a lot of follow-on violence will fade away.

teqwi commented on the blog post Obama Ignored Advice of Top Legal Advisors, OLC in Waging War in Libya
To begin with, I believe that all nations – strong and weak alike – must adhere to standards that govern the use of force. I – like any head of state – reserve the right to act unilaterally if necessary to defend my nation. Nevertheless, I am convinced that adhering to standards strengthens those who do, and isolates – and weakens – those who don’t. …
Furthermore, America cannot insist that others follow the rules of the road if we refuse to follow them ourselves. For when we don’t, our action can appear arbitrary, and undercut the legitimacy of future intervention – no matter how justified.
Those are a couple of snips from Barack Obama’s speech when he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009.
While the snips stand in stark contrast to what we now know he’s done, the rest of that speech seems mostly to promise more wars. The speech appalled me in 2009, but people told me I was crazy. Having read it again just now, I find I was not.

teqwi commented on the blog post FBI Aspires to Be the Stasi
You’ll have to kill someone else, Lake old sport. Surprisingly enough, FBI agents will not stand around on your property sorting through your crap while you fire away. You put your trash out for collection. They collect it just a tad bit sooner than the real trash truck. Away it goes to be sorted well out of your field of fire. Just stop putting your trash out. That fools them every time.

teqwi commented on the blog post Who Is Rehashing the Shrinks-4-Hire Report on Bruce Ivins?
Thanks. Book promo clears up a lot of my questions about the piece like why the LA Times ran it now, why it moves forward and backward in time so awkwardly, why some information is sourced but much is not, why so many details seem irrelevant to the story, and why he never follows up on topics he establishes. It reads like cut and paste – and it is. Of course, the original may be none too well researched or reasoned either.

teqwi commented on the diary post Tim Pawlenty: No Credit Risk If Debt Default If We Pay Foreign Investors First by Scarecrow.
So say what he isn’t saying. The money the Obama Administration has borrowed from the Social Security Trust Fund and the federal employee pension fund will never be repaid? Investors in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, and Zurich will get what they’re owed, but American workers who paid into government-run programs to provide modest incomes for [...]

teqwi commented on the blog post What Happened to Bradley Manning in January
Manning’s even less “visible” at Leavenworth than he was at Quantico and the thin but strong network of support that had formed around him in DC/N. Virginia now needs to reform 1,100 miles away. Let’s get on it.

teqwi commented on the diary post Will Bar Complaint Take Bite Out of U.S. Chamber’s Attack Dogs? by RogerShuler.
How amazed should I be that Alberto Gonzales’s corrupt chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, found a home at H&W? There he does FDA work and has just swapped his temporary D.C. bar license for a permanent one thanks to the conclusion of DOJ’s special prosecutor Nora Dannehy last June that charges would not be brought [...]

we are really looking for “what hasn’t yet ever happened, what is likely to happen based on what we believe indicates behaviors in the real world (digital or physical).
My mother always called that “worrying.” Thanks to your posting the Insights of Che Tuber, I now have even more proof that she was a woman ahead of her time.

teqwi commented on the blog post OMB’s New Security Memo Suggests WikiLeaks Is Media
Where’s your science? The presence of silicon does NOT mean a weaponizing coating is present on spores. Jahrling, who lacked expertise in bacteriology, said years ago that he made an “honest mistake” in saying the anthrax had been weaponized: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/sep/17/nation/na-anthrax17
Meanwhile, Kotula and Michael at Sandia Labs say there’s no evidence the anthrax was weaponized – and their science is excellent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHJNZUiyLGo
And Meleson and Alibek both examined the spores as well and reported they were not weaponized.
Interpretations based on x-ray spectra are meaningless.
