TheCallUp commented on the diary post Likud MK Danny Danon Wants to Put African Migrants in Israel into Concentration Camps by EdwardTeller.
And let us not forget two months ago, when hundreds of Israeli soccer fans rushed into a shopping mall, attacking Arab workers, chanting ‘death to Arabs’. The police arrested no one, even though it was all caught on video.
Here is Ha’aretz article on that shopping mall incident.
Rec’d.

Wonder if there is a way to sue the officers personally, to garnish their wages? I know this sometimes happens when specific employers have been found harassing employees, causing them great trauma.

It is clear the establishment is trying to make examples of some protesters to, as the National Lawyers Guild put it, “intimidate and stifle dissent.”
Protesters should respond by making examples of police departments by filing multi-million dollar suits against them anytime they pull this shit. Make them pay a price so high, that it will force them to obey the very law they are ironically enough paid to enforce.

Excellent coverage, Kevin! How disturbing. It’s like our worst nightmares coming true. Thank God for that Federal judge in Hedges case (on NDAA), or those 3 would probably already be en-route to a black site somewhere in Yemen.

TheCallUp commented on the blog post A Pro-Austerity Chart, and Why the President Is Touting It
Linden’s quote pretty much sums up the entire Presidency of Barack Obama:
It attempts to rebut criticism from the right of Obama
ALL about quelling criticism from the far right. Fuck the Left.

TheCallUp wrote a new diary post: A Sitting NY Supreme Court Judge With Cancer Makes A Plea For Medical Marijuana
After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, New York Supreme Court Justice Gustin L. Reichbach found himself immersed in a world of pain and misery, brought on by months of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. He’s spent 40 years in the law — over two decades as a judge — and thus never could have imagined that he would [...] -
TheCallUp commented on the blog post Polling: President Has Failed on Housing, Wall Street Accountability
The right seems to believe he will, as well. Why? Because, as with Obama, you can tell MUCH MORE about a candidate from his previous record, then by his ‘empty’ words on the campaign trail.

TheCallUp commented on the blog post A few thoughts from a drained accidental activist
It is frustrating. Often what seems so rational, logical, compassionate, and obvious somehow seems so ‘foreign’ and threatening to many.
I think the underlying battle is really between tradition vs. secularism.
Different ‘minded’ people subscribe to both the former and latter. But as time moves forward, and generations pass, I see secularists multiplying in numbers (slowly but surely) and those bounded by tradition, becoming more and more a minority — ‘Taliban’, if you will.
Great diary!

How about this for reality: Romney governed Mass to the Left of where Obama is governing the U.S.
Obama runs as progressive populist (to win over progressives), but his history shows he governs as a lawless corporatist neoliberal.
Romney runs as a right-wing corporatist (to win over Tea Party), but his history shows he governs as a left-leaning conservative.
It is basically a wash.
Who, above, will continue to split the left into partisans and policy hawks, which allows the neoliberal agenda to continue uncontested? Who, above, will galvanize the left, and at least contest the neoliberal agenda?

TheCallUp commented on the blog post Polling: President Has Failed on Housing, Wall Street Accountability
I agree. Well said!
I think Obama is much more dangerous to progressive values than Romney. Romney would likely provoke a “Scott Walker”–style response to his agenda, and galvanize & grow the occupy movement, protests, and that would mobilize Democrats in Congress to block him.
Conversely, Obama will split the Left and be able to push through even more neoliberal policies (under the cover of ‘hostage takers’ and ‘Blue Dog centrists’ and whatever other strawmen he can invent in his Kabuki theater).

TheCallUp commented on the blog post Polling: President Has Failed on Housing, Wall Street Accountability
In spite of Obama’s shrewd calculations, people actually do value the rule of law. Nothing provokes the wrath of the 99% more than the stench of 2-tier justice, and Obama has gone to great lengths to fortify 1 set of laws for all of us and another set for him and his establishment cronies.
Good to see it finally come back to bite him in the ass!

I haven’t seen them, but I read all about it in the Shock Doctrine. Neoliberalism is truly the cancer of the world.

Originally published at AlterPolitics Dr. Jill Stein, the prospective Green Party presidential nominee, just released a policy statement regarding Israel / Palestine on her website (which follows below). TheCallUp commented on the blog post Thoughts about the NYT’s ‘Can You Call a 9-Year-Old a Psychopath?’
Good point. The methodology for accurately diagnosing that child’s problem seems flawed enough, and even if they did in fact accurately diagnose him as a psychopath or sociopath, the options available to him seem rather limited as well.
My heart goes out to them. Great post, by the way!

From the New Orleans Times-Picayune:
One in 86 adult Louisianians is doing time, nearly double the national average. Among black men from New Orleans, one in 14 is behind bars; one in seven is either in prison, on parole or on probation.
