the garden wizard commented on the blog post Rep. Cohen Berates Eric Holder Over Obama Administration’s War on Marijuana
Rep. Cohen is not new to this issue, he sponsored Medical Marijuana bills while in the Tennessee legislature. He has been a fighter for us underdogs all of his political career. He has never in my recollection been afraid to speak truth to power.
Although the South is known for crackpot crazy conservatives, there are some progressive voices crying in our wilderness. Thank heavens for Steve Cohen, although he is from Memphis, not my district, I think of him as my congressman, instead of that twit, Diane Black. -

Oh, kids, its, ok, daddy just got killed by a remotely piloted aircraft, aRPC. Go back to sleep it weren’t no drone. Pigs, lipstick. Misdirection. Propaganda.
Do these drones seriously believe what they say, as they drone on. -
the garden wizard commented on the blog post Pentagon Suggests Sequester Would Impair Ability to Fight WikiLeaks
As my mother once told me, if you don’t do things you are ashamed of, there is no need to hide them. Seems that might be a good rule of thumb for government as well as individuals.

the garden wizard commented on the diary post Don’t Mess With Texas by hotflashcarol.
there’s enough redneck in me that I really hope these cops pull over the wrong people some day…with all that entails. The state of texas, their bible quotin governor will not do anything about it. These cops need some frontier type justice. Other posters are correct, tho, it just isnt texas, it happens all over, [...]

the garden wizard commented on the blog post Tennessee pastor blames Newton tragedy on schools teaching evolution, ‘how to be a homo’
Newtown, Tn, is back in the sticks. Back where the hoot owls fuck the chickens. It is not known as an intellectual center, by any means. Morris is an insignificant preacher, in an insignificant church, in a backwater town.
I am sure he is thanking his screwed up version of god that his great confession of ignorance has now made national and international headlines. -

Oh, we have some loony tunes preachers down here in Tennessee. Thats probably why the founding fathers included this in the state constitution: “Whereas Ministers of the Gospel are by their profession, dedicated to God and the care of souls, and ought not to be diverted from the great duties of their functions; therefore, no Minister of the Gospel, or priest of any denomination whatever, shall be eligible to a seat in either House of the Legislature.”
I think the idea was to keep them out of the public discussion of things. Wow, those founders were wise!

the garden wizard commented on the blog post Pot Legalization on the Ballot Dramatically Increased Youth Turnout
It would be interesting to see if youth turnout increases more with legalization initiatives than with medicinal MJ initiatives. It seems on the face of it that younger voters are not satisfied with halfway measures, as have the older generation.
Re police chief in Flint Mich. Perhaps the city should calculate how much time and effort is being spent by the chief and dept enforcing federal law, then deduct this amount from pay and appropriations.
Or, just fire the SOB

the garden wizard commented on the blog post UN Begs US to Stop Corn-Based Ethanol Production During Drought
The corn prices quoted above are a bit deceptive, on the low side. These prices reflect the price for bulk purchases, futures and etc. Yesterday I stopped by my local farm store and the price there for shelled corn is 11.50 per 50# bag. A bushel weighs 56 pounds, so that would put the per bushel price on the retail level somewhere around 12.50 per bushel(rough math!). It is bit of a kick in the gut to us small livestock producers. Coupled with the drought it is a one-two punch that is forcing many smaller farmers out of business, leaving the corporate farming types more in control. What could possibly go wrong with this scenario!
