themomcat commented on the blog post We Just Have to Take Holder’s Word That He Recused Himself From AP Case
He didn’t answer the question about putting his recuse in writing. iirc, he said he didn’t remember. That seems very odd that he would forget such an important decision on a matter he deemed of of the three worst leaks that put the American people at risk. I would have expected for the legal record, he would have been required to put this in writing, or that the FBI would have requested it in writing.
How many times has he recused himself in the last four and a half years?
It just doesn’t ring very true.

Why is anyone calling the math errors “mistakes? It is very clear that there were no mistakes, this report was intended to deceive to achieve the austerian’s goal. Just look who financially backed these two, Pete Peterson.

Singer, song writer, poet, author and activist Willie Nelson is 80 today, or maybe tomorrow
The singer whose birthday is Monday or Tuesday – Nelson says April 29, the state of Texas claims April 30 – occupies a unique space in America’s cultural memory. A walking bag of contradictions, he wears his hair long in braids and has a [...]

Folk singer and guitarist Richie Havens passed away Monday morning from a sudden heart attack . He was 72.
Havens, widely admired for his briskly rhythmic guitar style and richly textured voice, became a part of history for serving as the opening performer at the Woodstock festival in 1969. Havens transfixed the crowd at the start of that [...]

There is no statute of limitations on war crimes. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell, Yoo, et al can never leave the US without risk of being arrested and sent to the Hague.
I have a dream.

350.org & Bill McKibben react Tell Obama: Reject Keystone XL & Stop Golfing With Big Oil!

So while the media was obsessing over the lack of access for the photo op with the pres and Tiger, the real story is the pres golfing with a discriminatory, war profiteering, billionaire oil man. No to mention this was on the same day that the largest march for the environment was taking place. I [...]

themomcat commented on the blog post What If an Assassination Court Reviewed Placement of US Citizens on the President’s Kill List?
This is just lipstick on a pig. It still circumvents the due process guaranteed under the constitution. The accused has the right to see the evidence, hear his accusers and present a defense in a court of law. This just justifies the president’s disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law. Those who are supporting this are like kidnap victims who defend their captors. “Partisan Stockholm Syndrome.” I fear he’s all to correct in that analysis.

themomcat commented on the blog post Obama Wants Up or Down Vote On “Basic Plan” By Fiscal Cliff Deadline
Even if a compromise bill makes it out of the Reid/McConnell talks, there are a couple hurdles that it will have to take to make it to Obama’s desk.
It would have to pass in the Senate. To do that it would have to pass a cloture vote only after all the debate, unless Reid and McConnell agree to suspend cloture and take it directly to the floor for an majority approval. The likelihood of none of the recalcitrant right wingers agreeing tho that is mighty slim.
Let’s say it does pass and get to the House. The big problem there is the “Hastert Rule” which requires that the majority of Republicans agree to bring the bill to the floor for debate. Speaker Boehner would have to suspend that rule which will not go over so well with the wild children of the Tea Party, which could put Boehner’s position as Speaker in jeopardy. The question is what is more important to Boehner, the speakership or the economy? I think we already know the answer to that.
I will be quite surprised if there is a bill and if there is I am certain it won’t be anything that the majority of Americans are going to like, as if that ever mattered to our elected representatives.
In truth this “cliff” meme is nonsense. Let the Bush tax cuts expire and deal with the sequester stuff one piece at a time. Who knows, we might get a functional congress out of it.

themomcat commented on the blog post Fiscal Slope Deal Taking Shape; Social Security Benefit Cuts Contemplated
How about taking that $1 trillion from the defense budget that wouldn’t include cuts to benefits to military families and our troops, eliminate the subsidies to big oil, big pharma and agri business.
The majority of Americans have already paid the price and suffered enough.
This isn’t a “bargain” its a betrayal.

Sorry, my error, I meant Latif.
Like torture by the CIA and the travesty at Abu Graib, that autopsy is too embarrassing and incriminating to release. It is a well known fact in the intelligence community that most material that is classified is to cover up crimes by the government or situations that are just embarrassing.

Pneumonia?
Or pulmonary edema brought on by aspiration of water?
Or aspiration pneumonia by a poorly placed nasogastric tube?
The nonsense that he overdosed on medication is laughable on its face. if Saleh Al Hanashi was so closely watched and guarded and his cell was searched, how & where would he have been able to hide the pills?
Another question, was the OD a medical error. If Saleh Al Hanashi did indeed have acute pneumonia and was in multiple organ failure, his body would not have been able to completely metabolize medications resulting in toxic levels.
I take most of these reports with a large grain of salt. We have too much salt in our “diets.”

themomcat commented on the blog post Responding to Jon Chait on the Suddenly Possible Idea of Raising the Medicare Eligibility Age
Nothing wrong with your “tone,” David. The majority of Americans have already shared enough of the pain of the financial crisis. It’s well passed time that the people who caused the crisis start paying for it. When I talk to my Tea Party neighbors about this, they are incensed that anyone would mess with their Medicare. They’re just as furious with the Republicans as they are with Obama who they thought would at least protect Medicare.
Since raising the eligibility age for Medicare has been on the table and the President has refused to say that it isn’t, I have no doubt that this is exactly what he wants.

themomcat commented on the blog post Mary Schapiro Steps Down as SEC Chief
I’m not sure Ms. Walter is a good or bad choice. She’s a Democrat that was appointed by Bush 43 to fill a Dem seat on the SEC. She voted for allowing hedge funds to advertise although she had reservations that the rule was too loose and would allow for fraud. The SEC was boxed in by the JOBS Act to do this but wasn’t restricted on how to regulate the advertising so consumers would be informed before taking the risks. The final vote on the rule has yet to take place, so it could change.
