“And yet Dr. Spencer’s condition has deteriorated.” Dr. Stacey’s condition now has no bearing on whether he was infectious before becoming symptomatic. By every account of the disease I’ve seen, science indicates he was not. Therefore, he should not have been quarantined before becoming symptomatic. End of story.
Best of luck with whatever you do. Thanks for all the great writing and really the great leadership you’ve provided. I’ll miss reading you.
Have a great holiday season!

It goes to the top. After the debt ceiling debacle, here’s what the White House had to say; “Bipartisan Debt Deal: A Win for the Economy and Budget Discipline” with the triumphant bullet point “Domestic Discretionary Spending to the Lowest Level Since Eisenhower.” Yay! …yay?

I agree that Krugman’s timing has to do with “cutting off the ring,” or trying to. But not just for post-election — for Wednesday’s debate, too. The Obama campaign is pushing “debate parties” where people will probably applaud just about anything Obama says. It might be worthwhile to join those parties just say “booo” or just visibly shake their heads if Obama praises Simpson-Bowles, invokes shared sacrifice, talks about “everything on the table,” etc.

You’re right to say much of this was practice already; what’s new is to have Congressional blessing, which (as I understand it) +/- immunizes these policies against one kind of challenge (exec. overreach) under the key SCOTUS Youngstown Sheet & Tube decision back in the 50s.
As I write this the ad above my response is “2012 barackobama.com – Join Michelle and Tell Barack You’re In. Are You In?” No, I’m not.
