The IRS has your tax records and most anyone there can access them. The police can access your criminal record

Chris Hayes was just discussing this with someone the other night. They brought the IRS workers specifically.

They concluded that the culture is different at the IRS or the police. As we just saw from the alleged IRS ‘scandal’ that if you do something wrong and if it’s egregious, you will be called out and possibly fired and your career over. Also, while I’m sure certain shenanigans occur at the police stations across the country, it is still bad form for cops to abuse their power.

Contrast that with the NSA and the total lack of any real oversight where the culture is to do whatever you want. So, to compare IRS workers or cops with the NSA is ludicrous and ridiculous.

Yet you’re telling me that the NSA, which has FISA court oversight, can do more scary things to you than someone who can grab your social security number or your banking info or has knowledge about your medical problems.

Wow. If I saw this quote without knowing who wrote it, I would think it was Jim Hoft. FISA court oversight? WTF are you talking about? Isn’t most of the leaked documents about how there is NO oversight?

Come on TBogg. For fuck’s sake. I have to attribute these ridiculous claims of yours to your serious GDS or something.

So now the straw-man argument is what “scary things” can be done with the information. It’s no longer the principle of the matter that they are collecting it – but what can be done with it. I am in disbelief here.

  • I see what you did there. Very nice.

Slightly off topic, but am I the only one who hopes Elizabeth Warren never flies in a small, private airplane?

Oh, and GG has a book about it announced for next spring. Ain’t that amazing. Comedy continues.

A writer writing a book about a subject he is intimately involved with. Ain’t that some shit? Next you’ll tell me that a band is releasing an album of songs they’ve written. Oh, the humanity!

See, it’s this mindset I’m talking about: the implication that Greenwald’s motive is really money. Or fame. Or something.

As far as the substance of my prior comments – early on I asked for substance from you all and was shot down. I tried nine ways to Sunday for some explanations and all I got were temper tantrums and hissy fits.

…and I have chosen to not respond because it is a stupid question and if you choose to not understand the point of the post, that’s your problem. Now why don’t you go bother mean ole Mr. Wilson with a continuos stream of ” Why? Why. Why.”

    Watch the thin skin.

This feels like the Seinfeld episode where Elaine confronts the cartoon editor of the New Yorker. She finally realizes he doesn’t get the joke either and calls him out on it.

I’m getting the feeling that nobody, including you, gets the point of these posts either.

Now, way back earlier I asked some pointed questions about what I thought the point may be, such as, “to point out what a dick Greenwald is” or “that Greenwald is ruining the story by becoming too involved…” among others.

I don’t recall anyone correcting me or setting me straight. It was all Yoda-speak: Seek you and find you will the answer.

Shit, if it’s so goddamn easy and I’m so fucking stupid, then just tell me.

It can’t really be you are afraid some KGB sniper is really going to take Snowden out and all of these secrets will come out, are you? I mean, do you all of a sudden believe Greenwald’s hyperbole about these secrets being so damaging that it will do real harm to the US? Also, according to so many, we already KNOW all of what the NSA and our government does, so what secrets are there really?

No, all I can figure, and no one seems to correct me, is it’s a simple case of GDS. And I repeat again: I expect so much more from you because you are The Boss. Seriously, you are one of the best voices we have on our team, so I’m not just trolling.

So, El (can I call you “El?”), lighten up, laugh a little, have a Coors.

    Tibby is preferred.

Coors or Coors Light? Prefer Miller Lite.

Also, I can only assume your head did not explode for taking perhaps a minute or two to actually address my grievances about this post.

But Tbogg writes in a way that’s intelligent, entertaining, and funny.

I concur – which is why I click on TBogg’s joint 3-9 times a day in hopes of witnessing his brilliance.

Which is why I was and am confused and disappointed in this series of “knee. Jerk” posts which appear neither intelligent, entertaining or funny.

    Nor enlightening.

They appear only to slice at Greenwald – which we can all agree is a favored past-time of many lefty-pundits. From many of the front-pagers at Balloon Juice to LGF, the only time Greenwald seems to be mentioned is in the context of what a dick and a blow-hard he is. Now, I don’t disagree with this characterization too much, but again, I must ask: So fucking what?

    Ha Ha you are funny!

TBogg should have you do some front-page posting!

    Still laughing.

    Oh, my side hurts.

Nice one. Got it right in there.

You took what I wrote, then you marked it out and turned it into a gay-sex joke! With Jonah Goldberg! Imagination. You are overflowing with it!

Summer school’s over for the day?

Yeah and now I’m trapped on the short-bus that is the comment section over here.

Usually by this point int time, some commenter, either out of kindness or despair, will at least attempt to answer my question just to get me to shut the fuck up and go away.

But I’ve never witnessed so many honyocks who waste so much keyboard time simply refusing to engage with me. I don’t know, maybe they are waiting for TBogg to tell them what to say and think.

You throw around a bunch of denegratig comments about our host and the regulars, but you haven’t said anything of substance on the topic you claim is so important.

So sorry for the hurt fee-fees. I know it sucks when some new hot-head comes in and trashes the place. It’s not even my place!

I would absolutely love for you tell me the point of this post. Anyone.

So it’s a new day so I must assume you are done with tool jerking.

Now, perhaps YOU can enlighten me on the point of this post. Or, youi can write a few paragraphs talking about anything other than the question.

Is the comment section over here always such a flaccid circle jerk?

Weren’t you just fapping yourself for being a TBogg reader from the way way back time?

Yes but have never waded into the comment sections. I believe the only time I ever commented was on his very last thread at his old joint.

I don’t know if Greenwald has broken any story in the past ten years. He has progressed from a lowly, solo blogger to a stint at Salon, several NYTimes best sellers and a gig at The Guardian. So, I believe he has only donned the ‘journalist’ hat for a short period.

Regardless, to get drawn into this silly argument (as TBogg wants us to do) on who has the bigger journalists dick, Greenwald or Bernstein, is idiotic.

First, I am responding to other commenters, which by my understanding is the purpose of a comment thread.

Secondly, nobody (at least what I’ve caught up on so far) has taken the time to answer my question: What is the point of this post by TBogg?

Seems like those who care to respond to me would rather attack me personally and not deal with the substance of my beef – including you. I mean, you took some time out of your day to talk around my concern without ever addressing my concern. You are more concerned with motives or something.

I guess that’s why so many of you congregate here: you all like the pagentry of the personal attack while never addressing the substance.

Go ahead: try me. Explain to me why TBogg felt the need to basically replicate a post from the other day that seems (to me at least) to only exist to attack Greenwald.

    I am still waiting…

I will explain to you in detail why you are a moron.

    1. I was responding to your comment on what a big deal TBogg is (and I agree) by noting media types who have referenced him.

    2. I responded by declaring I had a letter published in the Nation magazine and a contentious e-mail debate with Jonah Goldberg as if to declare I was just a big a deal as TBogg.

    3. This was obviously and clearly snark of an epic proportion.

    4. You fell for this snark as if I was really claiming to be a Big Deal for these two minor ‘accomplishments’.

    5. This is why you are a moron.

Sorry I didn’t put a smiley face or LOL at the end of my snarky comment to help you down the road.

I can only assume you are a regular reader of TBogg and therefore accustomed to massivve amounts of snark. And while I may be a piker compared to TBogg, it was snark pure and simple.

    You are welcome.

All of that work tabulating comments and you can’t find a moment to engage any substance. Is the comment section over here always such a flaccid circle jerk? Or is the point to try and be witty without really saying anything?

Then stop jerking your tool and tell me the point of the post. It’s about the third one saying the same exact thing.

Is it to point out Greenwald is a huge asshole? That he is screwing the pooch by becoming bigger than the story?

If so Tbogg is kind of late to the

Because I enjoy engaging with folks like yourself who toss off remarks without really delving into the topic. So much fun.

Why don’t you take a moment and tell me what you don’t like about my comment? Enlighten me. Please anyone, tell me the point of this post. It’s nothing new.

You do realize that Charles Pierce on occasion quotes Tbogg don’t you?

Yeah, thanks. I am quite aware. TBogg does not hide his admiration and respect for Charles Pierce, to wit: (Unsurprisingly, Charlie Pierce has a similar yet better written take on this. Seriously, he’s making us all superfluous…)

I once had a letter to the editor published in The Nation magazine. What do I win? And I had an contentious e-mail exchange with Jonah Goldberg. Have I proven my bona fides yet?

No? Okay. Maybe you can tell me the point of this post? It’s only purpose I can tell is to show yet again what a giant DBag Greenwald is. Fine. We get it.
