tongorad commented on the blog post Democrats Still “Myth-Busting,” Proudly Boasting About Spending Cuts
Let’s call austerity for what it is: vicious class warfare. Worker’s living standards and political will/power are being smashed by both parties.

tongorad commented on the blog post Cory Booker’s Slip Reveals Role of Private Equity in Local Government Funding
Really, what Booker’s comments reveal is the complete bankruptcy of the progressive/liberal class, and the degree to which they are beholden to elite rule and unaccountable private concentrations of wealth and power.
The working class and the employing class have nothing in common, that ain’t changed just because you said so.

tongorad commented on the blog post California $7 Billion More in the Budget Hole Than Expected
It’s unclear to me what the mega-wealthy plan to do.
Answer:
I guess most of them have walled themselves into gated fortresses with private security both in their mega-manison homes & business “campuses.”
Bingo. That’s how the it’s done in the 3rd world.

With this and other austerity measures, we are decidedly lowering the productivity of the entire state for decades to come.
As California goes…

But by all means, feel free to demand the same changes here Republicans.
Why single out Republicans? This strikes me as dishonest. Do you really think anyone is fooled by this kind of cheap hackery at this point?
Obama has used Republican frames comparing our national debt to family budgeting, appointed Simpson-Bowles, put SS and Medicare cuts on the table etc. His entire Raison d’être is the Grand Bargain. -

tongorad commented on the diary post Sign Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace…Regulate Health Insurance Rates by Consumer Watchdog.
Interesting. However, I saw this nugget in the faq document linked from justifyrate.org’s website: Q: Is there precedent for this kind of regulation of health insurance companies? A: Thirty-five states, but not California, already require health insurance companies to get rate increases approved before they take effect. I’m wondering if these regulations in other states [...]

I don’t care if you’re impressed or not, and your the one who’s not putting “anything out there” other than name-calling and defensive, petulant demands about a “master plan.” I don’t see how your shitty attitude is going to win anyone over to your precious Green party. Are the Greens working class? Anti-capitalist? I doubt [...]

“I will never forget the command issued by one state Democrat speaking to tens of thousands of workers and their supporters outside the Madison Capitol Rotunda last March 12th: “Put down your [protest and strike] posters and pick up a [Democratic Party election/recall] clipboard.”

The Greens are an option I suppose. I don’t think they’re much of a threat to anyone, because, simply put, the environmental movement does not urgently or directly speak to working class concerns. The PTB love the Greens, what a cute little middle class movement. Working class solidarity and political power, now thats a threat. [...]

The first African-American POTA denies equality under the law and endorses states rights – astonishing, isn’t it? Kinda like crazy? I’m even more convinced that Obama will destroy Social Security and Medicare now. The powers that be have their perfect, ultimate stealth weapon. Obamabot hearts will fill with joy and pride as he ruthlessly decimates [...]

Obama Endorses Marriage Equality… But Not For All Adam Serwer, Mother Jones):
The president stressed that this is a personal position , and that h e still supports the concept of states deciding the issue on their own . Obama has endorsed marriage equality federalism—not the notion that marriage for gays and lesbians is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution [...]
