We should Occupy the White House. Is there a write-in candidate most of us could agree on? The vast majority of Americans are fed up with two-party politics. If someone consistently speaks for the solutions most of us want, they just might have a chance. Scheinderman, Grayson, Warren, Kucinich….somebody. Pick one.

Gore DID win the 2000 election. In the spring of 2001 a group of media outlets got permission to have a recount of the entire state of Florida. Gore had won, but by then Bush had already been inaugurated. The people had spoken, all five of them. John Bois, in Bush v. Gore made the [...]

tovangar2 commented on the blog post Occupy LA November, November
This from the linked LA Times article:
“we recognize that a number of the individuals who are on the lawn are not affiliated with the Occupy L.A. protest.”
I’m glad the Mayor’s office has admitted that. The city is hosting all kinds of groups on the South lawn at City Hall, the Tarp Tribe, the Star Tribe, the Sovereign Nation of Libertarians, random individuals, etc. some of which are very violent, unlike Occupy LA. Why? The others are not covered under the Constitutional rights to Free Speech/Assembly, only Occupy LA is and they are in a minority at the site and are victimized by the others. Occupy LA has no authority to throw the Mayor’s guests out, much as they might want to.
Neither the Times’ article nor this one states that any of the damage or assaults was the fault of Occupy LA, because they weren’t. Yet all trouble is blamed on Occupy LA by the media, because that is the spin they want to give it.
I sincerely wish the city would eject their guests, not affiliated with Occupy LA, and let the protesters get on with it.

The homeless/addicts/insane will have the support they deserve if the Movement is successful. Getting sidetracked from our main goals in essentially meaningless & amateurish attempts to keep them as pets now means they’ll never get the right help. Stay focused people

Oh, OK. In Oakland, the “Oakland Liberation Front”, a group that calls for violent revolution, got a bit out of hand, breaking a window, etc (childish stuff really), but were stopped by Occupy Oakland marchers. M$M still reported it as part of Occupy.

Only they didn’t call it the “elite”, they called it the “natural aristocracy”, but same diff.

Have a Constitutional Convention. Write up what needs to happen to have a representative government that brings our society/economy/environment back into balance. Pick a progressive write-in candidate (Scheinderman, Warren, Kucinich??) who will say (& mean) what the 99% want to hear and elect her/him. 87% of the population want the same things we do.

Yeah, Patriarchy. It harms everybody, squeezes the humanity right out of one. Time to end it.

Actually it’s originally from Niccolo Machiavelli

But I love me some Burnham. I went to school in Chi-town.

She’s great. She’s a fourth-generation activist (at least).
Our European family was never Christianized, so we’ve been resisting that, which is not easy when somebody’s been trying to burn one at the stake every five minutes for a thousand years. And our Apache family…well, you know their story. We’ve been fighting these same damn ******* since forever. This time we’re gonna win :-)

Easy for me. I got no car, no TV, no phone. Just a borrowed computer & internet. There’s a lotta power & dignity in being poor.
So yeah, stop funding the buggers. Buy local, buy used, buy less. Money’s all they want from us. Don’t give it to them.

No more remotely-hackable voting machines. We need machine-readable, printed paper ballots so we can at least get recounts. We must also throw out all the voter-suppression laws. We’d still have dirty tricks though.

Soul crushing maybe, but freeing at the same time. It allows us to think big.

Ah, the General Strike. Great vids. My 21-year-old daughter was one of 19 people from Occupy LA that went to Oakland in support. There were 5 camera peeps (including her) and others w/ various useful skills.
She said to me on the phone that it was “amazing”. She saw no cops on the ground, just one police chopper in the air. The first time she’s ever been at a rally or in a march where the protesters weren’t being herded along by police. The whole thing, she said, was run & directed with “people power” (pace, route, traffic redirection, etc). She said it “changed her life”.
