TrulyLeft commented on the diary post Your RW relative, “They never had to gas Tea Partiers!” by spocko.
LOL… not sure why you assumed I was referring to you as a moron… but if you knew SOME of the backwoods, hill billies that I know from living in the rural midwest, and how they are just naturally right wing thinkers and how most of them ARE in fact morons, you can see how [...]

It is even more difficult when they ARE a contemptible moron. There is no such animal, this “effective dialogue” of which you speak.

TrulyLeft commented on the blog post Obama’s Debt Ceiling Veto Threat Has a Credibility Problem
I’m no fan of Obama’s, but perhaps this veto threat is just reverse psychology and he WANTS them to offer a short term that he would in fact sign… just sayin’…

Disheartening, I know… I’ve accepted that we are thoroughly screwed. I’m just afraid I’ll still be alive when the bloodshed starts.
Damned greedy sociopaths have done this time and again all throughout history.
96 degrees outside here… still I have work to do…

What concerns me is what happens to the holdings of workers’ pensions if the stock market tanks and that’s exactly the leverage they have over the working class…
I hate to bug out but my small truck farm here is calling me to do chores. I’ve invested in a homestead as a means to survive the upcoming cataclysm… Later firepups.

Tourism is a mere drop in the bucket compared to auto manufacturing. I’ve heard it all now! Comparing tourism to auto manufacturing… lol! Get real! You can reply if you want, but I’m through arguing with you. I’ve done my daily troll feeding…

Not true. The fact that auto manufacturers are still struggling indicates that there are a multitude of metrics that affect profitability. The labor costs are not as large a metric as business proponents would have us believe. Insurance costs, energy costs and material have all risen at a aster rate than labor costs. Why is that you conservatives always want to blame it on the American worker… you have an agenda?

Most markets are closed to US goods, not because of price but due to import restrictions. Your argument is simplistic at best and indicative of your lack of depth of knowledge in the subject. I suggest you educate yourself instead of reading from a list of talking points.

As a proud American, I am willing to pay more to see my fellow Americans prosper. To suggest doing otherwise is subversive.

I didn’t pin that SOLELY on CEO salaries – you are being disingenuous to suggest that. But neither can you blame that on American workers and their negotiated benefits.
-

Those benefits are too good for us? Shouldn’t we as Americans strive for the best? I contend that as long as we can afford foreign wars to protect business interests abroad, we can afford a decent standard of living for working Americans.

I agree we have lived through an era of conspicuous consumption but why is it the working class is to suffer the most? I contend that we can still live a robust existence if we could all learn to conserve and exploit renewable resources. Solar, wind and others could reduce our dependence on oil energy, reduce the impact on our environment and allow us as a species to flourish. It’s the greedy sociopaths among us that prevent it…

Chrysler’s problems were pre-Nardelli. They’re rooted in decreased demand due to a number of factors, none of which you will acknowledge.

I don’t have to justify my buying habits to you, though I probably buy way less foreign made goods than you or the average American. And American CEO compensation surely DOES have an influence on product cost. Why you blame American workers for excess costs is mystifying… unless you just believe in slave labor in the third world economies. But, arguing is fruitless…

I’m doubtful that Chrysler was saved by shipping those jobs to cheaper markets… especially in light of 5000+ employees no longer able to purchase new vehicles here in the St. Louis area. That’s why the economy is stalled and folks like you will never get it — it takes demand of a well paid workforce to buy products. Without demand, no amount of cost cutting will SAVE a company.

No sense in arguing — you are clearly delusional.

As a taxpayer I bailed out my employer, Chrysler Motors just so they could shut down TWO manufacturing plants in St. Louis and ship one to Canada and the other to Mexico. That’s when I realized it was all a con game. Why did we bail out a car company and allow them to ship jobs out of the country???? We are just soooo screwed.

How about less compensation for the CEO’s? Workers’ wages are just a small part of the equation. And when you figure shipping from China… Perhaps we WILL have to pay a bit more but the long range investment will pay us handsomely.

Without those middle class manufacturing jobs, we won’t be buying shit no matter how cheap (and cheaply made)!

TrulyLeft commented on the blog post I Would Like to See the President When He’s in Austin Tonight, But I Don’t Have an Extra $50,000 Lying Around
But, the unemployed, they’re being coddled… lol. I know I shouldn’t bite, but some things just get my goat. I’m in my fifties and have at least my early retirement though I needed to work another 5 years to pay off my mortgage, etc. So I’m coming up short each month and have tried to find a menial job locally to bridge the gap. Nobody’s hiring 50+ year olds. Even if I would apply for physically taxing jobs, no one will hire me due to my age. But, believe me, for every unemployed worker interviewed saying he won’t take a lower paying job, there’s thousands who will. (No link to that, just my personal experience.)
