    Although I wouldn’t put anything past the USG, I really don’t think it has the resources to take on Russia.

    My take is Lavrov did the interview in English to try and pierce the American MSM bubble. RT is, after all, Russian propaganda aimed at the American people.

    I was impressed with Lavrov’s command of the English language too. I even heard either a “dunno” or “gonna”, which made me laugh.

    I was rather surprised that the translators used for Putin’s Q and A with Snowden didn’t seem to be that good. I’m assuming some words/phrases don’t have direct English-Russian translation.

    Now that I think about it, my husband had used an acupuncturist who was a licensed MD in China. In China med school uses Chinese, not English. In order to take the medical boards here, she had to learn English medicalese, which is about a three year process. She told me every other country uses the standard med terms. She has 2 toddlers and a business to run and had to drop out of her med term study class, for lack of time. I felt sorry for her.

    I don’t know if one is better than the other. Mostly I was just making a flippant joke regarding how poorly the article we were discussing was translated. That said, I’ve noticed Google has a hard time with any language that uses symbols. Have you ever used it to translate Arabic? Pretty much a lesson in futility. YMMV.

    It’s okay, we all get pwned. Although RT sets the bar very high, I’ve found that most Russians who speak English also seem to understand the subtle nuances of the English language. Even those who post on blogs generally seem to have an excellent understanding of the language. That article was so poorly written as to be almost unreadable. Major red flag for me.

    Although I’ve never verified this, a college professor claimed that English was basically a second language in Russia. International business deals and even medical schools in Russia use English. Anyone Russian feel free to confirm or refute.

    Yes, what made the report unbelievable was the 27 sailors resigning and the piss poor translation. If one is trying to target an English speaking/reading public, don’t use Google translate. Every English speaking Russian I’ve ever met spoke English better than most Americans, some with no accent whatsoever (which floored me).

    If I’m not mistaken, people have been revived after spending long periods in extremely cold water too.

    Since I’m fairly certain the stars, moon and sun have to line up perfectly to survive such an event, I personally am not going to try it.

    You didn’t hear about the teen who flew from San Jose to Hawaii in the landing gear of a plane and lived to tell about it?

    Admittedly, he did pass out so he wouldn’t make a good pilot for an F35.

    I was specifically thinking of the F35. But we now have a pilot for the F35, the stowaway on the Hawaiian Airlines flight.

    Here is the Lavrov interview in English.

  • I feel for Chelsea. It has to be hard enough to transition in general, let alone in prison.

    I am glad she has found her voice.

    Agree.

    The US also has a knack for shooting for the lowest common denominator and failing to achieve even that. Or shooting for the moon and ending in the water.

    I don’t find that report credible. No one else seems to be reporting it. If it were true, RT, at the least, would be reporting it.

    That said, I don’t doubt for a second that Russia and China have equipment superior to ours. After all, we’ve spent the last decade showing off our bright shiny “toys” in their backyard. No doubt, more than a few have been “hijacked” and reverse engineered. If Iran has been handed our drones on a silver platter, Russia and China took a few first.

    When I read about the NYPD’s twitter “incident” yesterday, I truly had a ROFLMAO moment.

  • This is all bullshit. Obama is doing no one any favors.

    2) are non-violent, low-level offenders without significant ties to large-scale criminal organizations, gangs, or cartels;

    Doesn’t California, at the least, consider everyone a gang member.

    (3) have served at least 10 years of their sentence;

    Ten years. Ten fuckin’ years. Their lives are already ruined and he wants them to be jailed for 10 fuckin’ years.

    Obama has no guts. No one should be in jail for pot, period.

  • They can’t comply. Evidently the USG believes its own propaganda and the entirety of the Russian military has invaded all of south and east Ukraine.

  • The few resident trolls usually show up on any diary remotely disparaging of Zionism. Generally we are pretty friendly around here but wait until the election, then it can be a free for all.

    If memory serves, he spent closer to 70 mil of his own money. Only an idiot would think he didn’t foresee a generous ROI.

  • Why does Russia have just days to comply? No matter which side you take it’s the Ukranian people who aren’t “complying”, and who can blame them.

    US foreign policy is run by a bunch of idjits.
