Hope you found time to watch the Masterpiece Contemporary flick; this:
“Re-thinking Iceland:” is a bunch of FT crapola by the same mindsets that want taxpayers to bail out bank creditors. It’s not till the end of the article that an Icelandic parliament member is allowed to say ‘it was the right thing to do’.

“Curious article: ”Why Is JPMorgan’s Gold Vault, The Largest In The World, Located Next To The New York Fed?””; is a continuation of speculation that currency wars are imminent and that the reported gold amounts held in storage are fabricated.

“Well, hot damn: “Duke [Energy Corp] Explores Rooftop Solar as Panels Slow Electricity Demand, CEO Says”.” ; another filip re Duke’s actions:
“Progress Energy Florida, which has been purchased by North Carolina-based Duke Energy, has collected more than $819 million from its customers for two nuclear projects, according to the Florida Public Service Commission.”

Duke Energy Corporation (DUK) announced that its Buck and Riverbend steam stations, coal-fired power plants in the Charlotte area, will retire two years earlier than scheduled.”

They’re being fracked out of biz in the fossil fuel world and need to switch their biz model.

    FWIW

Still Crazy after all these years

fatster; art reflects the reality of “The [UK] government has secretly ramped”; what to say?

Gonna say this “Stan Druckenmiller, “one of the best-performing hedge fund managers of the past three decades” is fomenting war between the elderly and the youth.” is hyperbole as is the reporters headline. He has some valid points and good suggestions and I speak as a 66 year old who only has SS as a source of income. THIS -”The Federal Reserve’s decision to hold interest rates near zero and buy $85 billion of assets a month is pumping up the stock market, all with the hope that rich people will spend those gains, and that money will trickle down to the rest of the country.

While stocks may continue to rise for a while because companies are buying back shares and retail investors are coming back to the market in search of returns, the gains probably won’t last, Druckenmiller said. “- doesn’t get near enough attention.
Just look at what one can get for even a CD -”not to mention” a regular savings account- in terms of interest versus the inflation rate and it’s real easy to see how the PTB policies are essential to the issue of generational change.
BUT he is incorrect when he states “because seniors consume about the same amount as people in their 20s or 30s, yet pay less in income taxes.” And, of course, that ‘plays’ into the issue of minimum wage.
SNAFU, same as it ever was.

    “Shout it from the house tops: “The traditional Medicare program allocates only 1 percent of total spending to overhead compared with 6 percent when the privatized portion of Medicare, known as Medicare Advantage, is included” ;
and even that well done study has it’s issues. Comparing Medicare Part C(Advantage) to Medicare Parts A (which everyone who has worked for any appreciable amount of time is enrolled in at no cost) and Part B (which costs a person around a $100 a month and has ‘gotchas’ associated with ‘quarters’) and Part D (prescription drug coverage for which there are costs associated) is where a lot of the confusion lies because the Advantage Plans quite often have benefits that aren’t available via A,B. or D under Medicare -such as health club memberships, ‘alternative’ therapy practitioners- AND which get reflected in the ‘overhead’ calculations.
    For example:
    http://www.medicare.gov/

    http://medicarebenefits.us/medicare-advantage/state/california/

BUT it’s still far better than employer or private insurance as towards costs.

AS Thomas Frank stated, ‘a man of academia’.

  • Valerie Plame’s ‘outers’ are still not being prosecuted; bottomline is that with position comes privilege.

The phrase “Uncle Tom” has also become an epithet for a person who is slavish and excessively subservient to perceived authority figures, particularly a black person who behaves in a subservient manner to white people; or any person perceived to be a participant in the oppression of their own group”; I once had a commented deleted because I called Obama what the wiki defines above; still think my comment was on the money.

“This is a significant difference from the prescription and use of any other controlled drug, where the patient is given specific medical guidance on how much of a drug to take and how often to take it.” ; and whose fault might that be Governor?

And. pray, please tell, why do you allow the prescribing of drugs where the FDA has admitted death could result for a very small percentage of those taking it but NO ONE has ever died from medical marijuana?

Yes, more visual connection to the words. Spanky didn’t last long but big women seldom do in the music industry.

All I know is I haven’t heard any politician except Romney mention poverty and he only did so in a manner to bash Dems.

AFAICT, the political class in this country has ‘turned away’

  • Not sure if this makes sense ,this diary.
