Not at all, I was referring to, you know, the topic at hand and specifically the congressperson’s call to sign a petition “…against Social Security and Medicare cuts…” It would be you who widened the debate to include the off-topic issue of sunshine laws and policies. Rather, it sure seems like it’s your own attempt at “moving the [...]

While I personally count “sunshine” laws and the general freeing of data as noble goals, and I have a lot of respect for the effective action Mr. Swartz took himself, in the face of the slow-rolling bulldozer of destruction that is laying waste to the United States and this president’s own unprecedented secrecy, I must [...]

That’s your proof that petitions will work to stop the overwhelming plutocratic majority in US government from continuing their unpatriotic path of national destruction? A minor, budget-free change to a publishing policy? Pardon me if I don’t consider that a very effective counter-argument to the overwhelming evidence that petitions will never even assist with making [...]

Very funny and all, but… A PETITION?!?!? Really?Because those’ve been SO effective. I appreciate the congressperson’s commitment, but the last 20 years have shown us anything, it’s that this government is NOT going to serve the people or their wishes, unless those wishes coincide with the desires of the plutocrats who have a permanent majority of “both” parties. Some [...]

    The Two Parties Continue…

Didn’t need to read any further, as this, to me, indicates we’ll be talking about whatever Beltway-Broadway production is currently in production, not about real issues and fact.

    Rewritten, now that I’m awake.

I find this continual assertion, groundless in my experience, that there is a “progressive” wing to the Democratic Party more than a little disturbing and disingenuous. How can a demonstrably authoritarian/right party like the Dems have a progressive wing? It’s anathema to their policies and goals.

This whole issue smacks of arguing which china to take on the lifeboat, as the ship (of state) is sinking.

Not a “third party”,a real progressive party. Who’s left to vote for the Rats? Let them die the political-death they so richly deserve and have earned.

And here’s another vote for Phred’s idea, change the pledge to defund all Democrats if any Democrat votes for these anti-American plans.

Glad to see some actual action being taken, a defunding-pledge, as opposed more pointless appeals is the form of petitions.

As such, you have my buy-in. Signed.

Now, let’s move on to organizing some SERIOUS civil/economic unrest. The only way they’re going to scale back their ambitions is out of fear and we have the numbers and they get their money-power from us.

Time to start de-funding the corporations:

    ° Dump your AT&T/Verizon service.
    ° Stop buying Hollywood films.
    ° Stop watching television.
° Take your money out of the banks.
    ° Cash in your investments.
° Stop giving to corporatized “charities” and “activist” groups.

    LET THEM KNOW WHY!

We may not be able to stop them quickly, but we can at least stop funding our own oppression.

  • …the stated goal of the President to responsibly manage the nation’s deficit.

Best laugh I’ve had all day. Thanks!

  • Maybe organizing to prevent said raids? Blockades? Something actually effective? I mean, these government criminals are hardly likely to respond to a stern letter, are they?

Effective action that gets media attention and moves the “he said..she said…” media window in the right direction.

Yeah, all 17 articles in Google News. Whooptiy-doo, there’s some change you can believe in. Sorry. But petitions and stunts don’t do anything effective and you’re not going to move any windows in the corporate media with stunts and petitions. These things are easily ignored and they ARE ignored. Worse, the signing of a petition is a psychological disincentive for the signer to take further action.

Seriously, how does a petition and a stunt make for any effective action, how does this ephemeral notion of “window moving” work, with isolated and easily ignored (by the media) showboating of this sort? Surely you can present some actual factual data, if it’s so effective?

Ineffective showboating. Greenpeace donors, if they care about actually effecting change, should be incensed.

Good for you. Now, take some actual action, as opposed to an immediately circular-filed petition and organize people to get out to lodges, senior-centers, etc to encourage MASSES of seniors to do the same, as well as dropping any AARP-sourced services or insurance they may have purchased, educating them along the way. THEN you’ll get my [...]

So, lemme see if I got this right. All Mr. Mishel’s ‘interaction’ here amounted to was a restatement of their posted-on-fdl obfuscation and a nit-pick on the technical merits of one commenter’s use of the word “Purity”?

    Gotcha. Effective messaging there.

  • Of course, for the progressive movement to move forward would require Progressive blog-pundits to admit that Obama achieved most of his goals, just that his goals are right-wing, corporatist ones. That is not something that comes easy to most blog-pundits.
