Give it up already. You were wrong. (“..none so blind as those that will not see.”) Regeneratively cooled, liquid rocket engines are a hobby of mine. (I’m an engineer and geek.) But, I’ll play along if you like. The WIKI article was as close I could get to “An Idiot’s Guide to the History of Rockets and Missiles.” But, here you go. (These are all in my library and are some of the “non-technical” rocket books covering early rocket history.)
Von Braun: Dreamer of Space, Engineer of War – M.J. Neufeld
Project Paperclip: German Scientists and the Cold War – C.G. Lasby
Von Braun: Dreamer of Space, Engineer of War – Michael J. Neufeld
Science With A Vengeance: How the Military Created the US Space Sciences After World War II – David H. DeVorki
Peenemude to Canaveral – D.K. Huzel
Hitler’s Rockets: The Story of the V-2s – Norman Longmate
The History Of Germany’s V-weapons In World War II – Benjamin King and Timothy Kutta
These should get you started. Let me know when you finish them and I’ll send you a larger list somewhat more technical in nature.

Are you really that delusional? Operation Paperclip at the end of WWII brought German ROCKET SCIENTISTS to the U.S. to help start up our own missile programs. (The Russians grabbed them some, too, to work on their missile program.) These scientists worked on the V-2 (A-4) during the war and were held as “suspect” by Himmler (SS and Gestapo.) The chief scientist, Dr. Werner von Braun, was head of NASA until the early 70′s and lead the team that designed the Saturn V rocket and Apollo capsules. (Mercury, Gemini, Apollo were developed under this group.) None of the scientists were *leaders* of Germany. Several (including von Braun) were arrested by the Gestapo in late 1944, but were released when the Wermacht (German Army) intervened, because they were deemed irreplaceable. Most became U.S. citizens in the 1950′s and all have since died. Geeze. You demonstrate profound historical ignorance. I retort: *YOU* go look it up.

You can’t even get the quote right:
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.”That’s the correct quote. Glad you like Patton. Here are some more choice quotes of his:
“Americans love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle.”
“A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.”
“Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.”
“Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.”

vidkunquisling commented on the diary post Could Shale Gas Reignite the US Economy? by TobyWollin.
With regard to “Energy Apollo Project”, we have already done it: Nuclear energy. The following is a long (but hopefully cogent) argument explaining why nuclear energy is really our only long-term alternative. Because of the laws of physics, in particular the 2nd law of thermodynamics, there is really no such thing as “renewable” energy. The [...]

vidkunquisling commented on the blog post Good News About Possible Treatment for Malaria
Malaria is an ancient disease and has evolved to survive assaults by our immune system. It is caused by a plasmodium, which is a type of “protozoan” and not a bacteria or virus. It has evolved an arsenal of ways to avoid the normal immune reactions (see Arcparser #6 reply.) Numerous other animals besides humans can contract malaria, another sign that it is an “ancient” disease. In fact, the carriers of the gene for sickle-cell anemia historically originate from areas where falciparum malaria is endemic. The heterozygous carriers of the gene have some natural immunity to that form of malaria. One third of all Sub-Saharan Africans carry the gene along with some groups from the Mediterranean. Again, this shows the “ancient” nature of the disease and the fact that it is highly evolved to survive immune systems in animals. It’s a tough organism.

Ah, yes, the liberals’ “Inconvenient Truth” : The 10% of households with the highest incomes pay more than 70% of federal income taxes, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
No amount of squealing and squawking changes this simple mathematical fact. You are a TAX DENIER.

“America should tax the rich more and use the money to create jobs. ”
Exactly how would that work? Since the private sector creates real jobs, would you not have to turn right around and give the money back to private sector? Unless of course you plan to use the money to just hire people to “work for” the government, doing, ..what? How do you choose who is to get the money? Enlighten me. -

OK, then why don’t you move to another country? Can’t find one as nice as this one? (/s, so don’t blow, yet.) Of course, it is your country just like it is my country . It’s as much your right to stay here and change things as it is mine. Too bad for you that the “majority of [...]

Obama is pretty smart and has access to information that neither of us do. Could it be, and I’m just speculating here, that, being in his position as Commander in Chief and the ultimate authority in charge of our security, he has had some kind of epiphany or come to realize something that you are [...]

Man-o-man, Rahm was certainly right. Most of you are “f*cking retards.” When one of you has a friend or relative killed by a terrorist, then would you really be saying these things? Those of you who live in N.Y., would you give a printed copy of this thread to a spouse of someone killed on [...]

Why all the bile directed at David Brooks? Many “right wingers” write for other publications with even more to-the-right ideas and I don’t ever see them castigated here with such vehemence. Oh, wait, I remember now. It’s the NY Times. Not supposed to promulgate any views other than the progressive dogma. Somebody left of center [...]
