VJBinCT commented on the blog post Religious right bearing false witness against Sandra Fluke
Chris Rodda’s book ‘Liars for Jesus’ is available for free download at her site http://www.liarsforjesus.com/downloads/LFJ_FINAL.pdf
Explains a good deal, not that we haven’t been aware for a long time, but good on documentation.

VJBinCT commented on the blog post Another Failed Housing Program: Hardest Hit Fund Pays Out Just 2% in 16 Months
2% in 16 months? Where can I invest? That is a good return these days. I have a substantial money market account I keep for ready funds in case of emergency making 0.15% and a checking account making zip.

VJBinCT commented on the blog post Virginia Ultrasound Bill Doomed After Senator Strikes It
If Jill Holtzman Vogel sponsored and introduced the bill (which she must have if she can strike it), you’d think she would have read it first. But that might have been too much to ask, if she is merely the state senate tool for introducing such legislation. One could hope that her legislative career has just ended, but (sigh!) probably not.

VJBinCT commented on the diary post ALEC Ally “Minnesota Majority” Uses Racist Imagery to Sell Voter ID by Phoenix Woman.
I agree that the symbolism is rich. I never would have associated the spook with ‘spook’ in the racially derogatory way. I thought maybe KKK? The zombie may be the ‘graveyard vote’, of course (how attuned they to comtemporary cultural memes!). I don’t think the people who devised these ads are very bright. Except in [...]

VJBinCT commented on the blog post Remember Vatican II
I was at a catholic college during Vatican II, and hopeful. Somewhat later I became what I call a ‘driven-away catholic’. Fortunately I have not encountered a bishop in person since, so have never been arraigned for assault.

VJBinCT commented on the blog post Republican Ron Hill: ‘Taliban Rick’ Santorum Sinks to New Low in Questioning Obama’s Faith
“According to Rick Santorum’s “biblical values” it’s ok to cut taxes on the wealthy while slashing health care for the poor. Jesus never said anything about the poor or the sick, did he?”
Last I heard, Jesus was renting money-changer tables in the temple at $10k a seat.

VJBinCT commented on the blog post I Am Not The State
Thanks for Randall Jarrell poem. It is absolutely appalling, in the OMFG!!! sort of way. I first read this on a junior English exam taught by a published poet(a Jebbie scholastic and really good guy who left the order and later taught at Stanford) at a Jesuit high school back in 1961. You could hear the thunk of jaws hitting the floor. It is my favorite (as one might say) short anti-war poem, and makes me go huge and green and berserk whenever I think of it.

VJBinCT commented on the blog post The Roundup for September 22, 2011
The article about jobs in Texas going to recent immigrants (yay!) from the Center for Immigration Studies has an interesting byline:
‘Steven A. Camarota is the Director of Research and Ashley Monique Webster a demographerat the Center for Immigration Studies.’
Is a ‘demographerat’ similar to a ‘demoncrat’?
Probably is, since that article seems to imply that we need more immigrants for entry level jobs (who also pay into social security and keep the supposed Ponzi scheme going–to the consternation of the TPers.)
