This trespass is like taking a dump in the Sistine Chapel.

Yeah, but if it would help aid in the cause of fighting the current human based destruction of the bio-sphere, then I wouldn’t have any problem with taking a dump in the Sistine Chapel. When compared to the importance of the Earth’s biosphere, the Sistine Chapel means nothing.

Which is not to say that this Nazca thing was necessarily the best strategy, I think that maybe they could have chosen a different course of action. However, I don’t think it is a matter of taking things “too far.”

Please explain how we’d do this with Governance (Mange the transition).

Your catastrophe link seems to give me a “page not found” result. In any case, to answer your question. . . . (1) I’d suggest starting out by encouraging suicide as much as possible. Make it fashionable, easy, and fun. There could even be a [...]

We’re about 5 to 6 billion people too many for your scenario,

That is why one of the first steps has to be a dramatic reduction in human population. And I’ll add that forces such as global warming will not care that “we’re about We’re about 5 to 6 billion people too many,” it’s not like [...]

Well, oil prices should be much higher than they are. In fact, humans should be banned from using oil altogether.

To put it a different way: low oil prices never benefited a dolphin. The only ones who benefit from the oil are the 1%ers of the Planet (meaning humans).

I hope you heal up quickly and get back to us soon Jane.

And I’ll add that I’ve greatly appreciated what you’ve done with FDL over the years, so I’ll miss having you around.

My hopes: 1) That if there is a heaven to which souls go, the souls of animals are also collected there. And if God does decide to collect me into that place, he puts me with those animals, whom I feel much love and empathy for.

    Agreed 100%

And that after the human race is gone, there [...]

As long as humans continue to act like a cancer on the bio-sphere, I’ll be cheering for the AI.

Not being organic, I can’t see why that such a being would have any reason to feel anything approaching empathy with humans or any other organic creature…

The above is an interesting statement. I wonder if we [...]

Everything in a movie is copyrighted. Heck Hulk Hogan the wrestler had to change his name because of Marvel’s copyright lawyers.

Yes, but Hulk Hogan isn’t based on a character which was invented 1000 years before Marvel Comics existed. In what way could Thor, or Odin, or Loki, or Sif, be considered Marvel’s intellectual property?

Brainwashing starts when the young learn to love heroes like Odin, Thor etc then learn the truth later on of course many will deny the truth and stick to pleasant fantasy.

Can there really be a “truth” about a fictional character? Given that Thor and Odin are not real, you can tell any story you like. [...]

one question I frequently have to ask myself is, “Are they stupid or are they evil?”

Stupid or evil? If I ever write a book about Bush, that is what I’ll call it. The problem with Obama is that we know he is not that stupid, which leaves the other alternative. However, more generally, when it [...]

If we are really supporting those killers and mass murders then maybe we deserve a little more karma.

To avoid supporting killers and mass murderers, more people need to start voting for 3rd party candidates. ;-)

  • warp9 commented on the blog post CDC: Up To 100 People May Have Been Exposed To Ebola

    2014-10-03 16:15:48View | Delete

Should this Ebola case really be on the front page of every national news source

Here is the real story: there is a major disease spreading far and wide, I’d call it a kind of cancer on the bio-sphere.

    From Time Magazine: http://time.com/3035872/sixth-great-extinction/

The Sixth Great Extinction Is Underway—and We’re to Blame

The Earth has been stripped of up to 90% of its species five times before in the past 450 million years. Now it’s happening again—and this time there’s no rogue asteroid responsible

Here’s hoping the human species likes its own company, because at the rate Earth is going, we might be the only ones we’ve got left.

It would be nice if this cancer would go into remission on its own, but I’m not holding my breath. It may take something to make that happen. . . . Maybe something that could attack the cancer—like some kind of virus.

  • Judge Kessler issued a decision that should be widely praised.

Yep. 100% agree, this decision should be widely praised.

They are not working on behalf of 99s.

That is where you are wrong. Humans are the 1%’ers of the bio-sphere. And the WWF is working on behalf of that other 99%

What is the difference between the 1%’ers on Wall Street and the 1%’ers of the bio-sphere? The difference is that the 1%’ers of Wall Street haven’t killed off half of the econonic 99% in the last 40 years, whereas humans have managed to kill off half of the other creatures on Earth in that same time frame.

Sorry, going to need more than that. Sounds to me like basically the same kind of argument that I’ve heard democrats use about republicans funding green party candidates.

The simple fact is that humans are doing massive damage to the eco-sphere. And it manifests in various ways.

Starting with you primarily I hope.

I’m willing to take my chances—I have no problem dying for the Earth’s biosphere. But it will not be enough to do any good unless billions more also go.

I’m ambivalent myself, is there are way to make our numbers work under a different system or is 7 billion people just a non starter?

If you forced me to answer I’d say these population levels just don’t work.

I agree that these population levels just don’t work. We should be doing everything we can to cut back human population levels.

My primary hope now is that we manage to get something like ebola, that spreads far and wide, and wipes out billions of humans.

This headline could be entered as prima facie evidence that Rs are smarter than Ds

    I disagree.

My explanation is the following: the followers of both parties are Nazis. The fascist-democrats are content with the fascist policies we’ve been getting. The republicans are also fascists, but they are simply insane, and will not be happy, even when they are getting the policies they support.
