Whispers commented on the blog post DSCC Wastes $1 Million in Ads on Retiring Ben Nelson
A good example of “resistance to evidence.” A lot of people prefer their pet theories to any evidence to the contrary.
The short word I use for people like this is “stupid.”

Suggest using “donkeys” for the idiots in charge of the party. It’s short and covers their allegiances and their idiocy simultaneously.

This is what happens when you have a President who has no interest in being the leader of a party movement, and who instead is solely interest in his personal gains. The next time Obama presents a coherent vision of what he wants the government to do will be the first time he’s done so.
Well, the first time since the campaign at least. But he abandoned that vision. You know, the one that got him elected. Seems like a strange decision, to walk away from the vision that got a clear majority of votes, but hey, what do I know?? -
Whispers commented on the blog post WH Response to Individual Mandate Court Ruling: We Have to Have the Mandate, or Else!
And to be blunt, the WH’s argument is a classic example of begging the question. “We must have the power to pass this legislation, because if we don’t, then the legislation won’t work.” Yeah, um, the government’s lack of creativity doesn’t give it more powers. If you think up a scheme for addressing the nation’s problems, but its implementation requires the expansion of governmental powers beyond Constitutional limits, then you have not, in fact, thought up a scheme for addressing the nation’s problems.

This would be a good time to review the difference between “insure” and “ensure”.

When unemployment is near 10%, we really don’t need to worry about “America’s biggest long-term problem.” The best way to ameliorate our deficit problems would be to restart the economy.
Austerity programs will do exactly the opposite.
There isn’t a chance in hell that this slump will be over in less than 11 months. Obama is doing an incredible job to ensure that he loses his re-election. -

Where was this concern for fiscal discipline back when Bush was flying pallets of cash into Iraq?
Any plan to cut costs that ignores the military and the costs of the wars is simply not “serious”.
