zee01 commented on the diary post Brian Schatz Appointed Hawaii’s Senator by Mauimom.
I read that some of the thinking was that Hanabusa just won re-election to the House, and appointing her would have led to a special election for her seat.

Seems their main benefactor, Richard J. Stephenson’s (Cancer Treatment Centers of America) main concern is fighting against the ACA.

There’s a really interesting story at the Washington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/freedomworks-tea-party-group-nearly-falls-apart-in-fight-between-old-and-new-guard/2012/12/25/dd095b68-4545-11e2-8061-253bccfc7532_story.html
“The day after Labor Day, just as campaign season was entering its final frenzy, FreedomWorks, the Washington-based tea party organization, went into free fall.
“Richard K. Armey, the group’s chairman and a former House majority leader, walked into the group’s Capitol Hill offices with his wife, Susan, and an aide holstering a handgun at his waist. The aim was to seize control of the group and expel Armey’s enemies: The gun-wielding assistant escorted FreedomWorks’ top two employees off the premises, while Armey suspended several others who broke down in sobs at the news.”

zee01 commented on the diary post Romney campaign outraged by one man one vote in case of presumed military supporters by David Apgar.
Several weeks ago my crazy sister posted “her” outrage that Obama was sueing to limit military folks’ ability to vote, via Facebook with a breitbart article. I knew it was nonsense, so researched for, and posted the facts in reply. She promptly put a ban on me, like I was a stalker or something. These [...]

zee01 commented on the blog post What Can Be Done to Fight Republican Governors Resisting Medicaid Expansion
Is there a reason that we could not just open up medicare for anyone who would qualify for medicaid under the expansion, but live in opt-out states? Using an existing federal program might save start-up costs, maybe begin using medicare as the vehicle for universal healthcare?

zee01 commented on the blog post Lack of a Straightforward Defense of the Individual Mandate
I am definitely not for the mandate requiring me to purchase insurance from a for-profit company. Absent the will to create a universal care or single-payer federal program, could we do it through the states? If it is legal for a state (Romneycare) to mandate insurance, and the ACA is working through the state exchanges, couldn’t the ACA be amended to push states into operating their systems toward universal coverage? Perhaps something like only reimbursing a state a percentage based on the percentage of people in the state covered?

zee01 commented on the blog post Peter Wehner’s Selective Culture Of Life
I remember one of his corruption scandals – and after scroogling it, it looks like Mother Jones is bringing it out again:
http://motherjones.com/politics/2012/01/rick-santorums-school-scandal“Santorum has campaigned on the fact that his seven kids have been home-schooled….
“But Santorum wasn’t always so opposed to government-run schools—especially one Pennsylvania cyber charter school that offered students free computers, internet service, and online classes. Between 2001 and 2004, that online school allowed the Santorum family to live in Virginia, while sticking Pennsylvania taxpayers with a $100,000 bill.”
