Ladies and Gentleman, Alan “310 Million Tits” Simpson, whose plan to gut our country’s safety net is being embraced by President Obama, thinks the AARP is a “cruel organization” full of “marketers,” not “patriots.” That said, Simpson, aged 79, really likes the AARP’s magazine, especially “their article on sex over 80. Hell, I thought that was amazing.”
In a late January interview with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto, Simpson rambled about the AARP while trying to defend his Catfood Commission. Watch it:
Note: Firedoglake is not responsible for any long term damage associated with any mental anguish from imagining Alan Simpson perusing through the AARP’s magazine on articles about sex over 80.

Saying what I would like to see happen to simpson and after that in the flaming pits of hell would get me banned from the site.
I can haz brain bleach please???!!!
So not only is he a despicable bastard; he reads AARP like it’s Cosmo. Perv.
Ditto! I have similar thoughts.
TMI. seriously.
It is hilarious to see reporters interview this moron.
the Intelligent left could learn a lot from Donald Trump.
Donald Trump knows OBAMA was born in Hawaii, did that stop him from jumping on the birther movement? NO
Trump treats the tea party like a bunch of Morons to be prayed upon.
(Trump probably can’t believe how dumb GOPers are, he is going to laugh one day so hard, his wig is going to fall off)
Alan Simpson deserves the same type of sarcastic treatment from the left.
No reporter should treat Alan Simpson like he is intelligent, just ask him dumb questions.
Reporters should ask Alan Simpson how was George Washington as president?
Alan what dis you and Old Ben Franklin do for fun in DC?
the Intelligent left needs to stop acting like, Morons matter!
Uggh — reactionary-geezer-devoted-to-slashing-the-social-safety-net porn. The worst kind.
In the inner circle that he travels, they’re all pervs.
Sure Simpson is a fool and an ass, but Erskin Bowles, Alice Rivlin, and William Daley are more dangerous.
ask him
why under Bush, the debt ceiling WAS RAISED 6Xs nobody mentions that
head meet desk!!!
Given the focus is on Alan Simpson in the remarks so far, I would still find it appropriate to mention that AARP is not your grandmother’s retirement association – not since they supported the big pharma giveaway Congress enacted in the dead of night during the Bush years. That’s when I cancelled my subscription permanently.
Some here might remember a Seinfeld episode re George Costanza fapping to a Glamour Mag – whereby his mom came home and saw him, freaked out, fell over & ended up in hospital.
That Seinfeld episode was (imo) hilarious. Simpson perving an AARP Mag is just revolting, but everything about Simpson is ICK-making.
“Note: Firedoglake is not responsible for any long term damage associated with any mental anguish from imagining Alan Simpson perusing through the AARP’s magazine on articles about sex over 80.”
That’s easy enough to say, but things once read cannot be un-read. And I’m at work and can’t avail myself of a big gulp of bourbon…
call me crazy, but I like the thought of Simpson having sex . . . with a rabid wolverine
125% of poverty is what the median Social Security benefit already is (13,000 or less if you are a woman). To think that Simpson is raising benefits for the low-income folks is a lie. What the B-S recommendations do is reduce Social Security program outflow by gutting benefits for the middle-class. His AARP comments were a strawman diversion from what these crooks are going to do to Social Security and Medicare.
Hmmm…I was thinking of a frustrated Silverback Gorilla.
I notice none of them suggest giving the money we’ve paid in back to us.
A good point, sadly. AARP once did some good things for Seniors. Now it is more of a BigIns org – yet another group that has been hijacked by the Corp Oligarchs to meet THEIR needs. Unsurprising that such drek as Simpson is perving thru the mag. Simpson prolly gets his rocks off more on the BigPharma ads that stories about sex over 80… (now we all need more brain bleach)…
Why doesn’t he ask his buddies on the board of G.E. if there are “any patriots” there? Citibank? Goldman? Halliburton? These are the a**holes I’m sure Simpson complains about Social Security with, over their gin and tonics.
“Where are the patriots? Whhhaaaaaaa!”
Actually, one of the Peterson funded fake astroturf foundations had a plan that would raise the FICA tax by 2% and direct them to private savings accounts (read Wall Street). I cannot remember which organization it was, because Mr. Peterson has funded so many fake organizations to promote his cause, that of destroying Social Security. He has weakened young people’s perception of the strength of the Social Security program. He has divided the younger and older generations so that they are squabbling over a program that has always served them well.
Yes, I read that too but I was referring to the tens of thousands I have already paid into the Social Security system. There is a word for compelling people to turn over their money and then not giving it back. It’s “theft”.
Agreed.
I’d like someone to write an article deconstructing his dishonest explanation of the way that SS adds to the deficit.
He made a Freudian slip the other day on NPR, when describing the situation with the trust fund, something along the lines of;
“… it was not stolen, that’s just a lie…”
But on the other hand;
“… it’s just a pile of IOUs …”
Congress started ‘borrowing’ from the SS trust back in the 1980′s in order to fund the government while cutting taxes for the rich and powerful.
To date they’ve ‘borrowed’ close to $2 Trillion from SS and Simpson’s job is to rationalize why they shouldn’t have to pay it back.
I say ‘they’ ‘borrowed’ the funds because over the same time period, the rich have paid less and less of the cost of government while the poor and middle-class have paid more and more.
Why hasn’t Simpson asked others who are owed money by the government to forsake re-payment?
China owns a lot of ‘IOUs’ too; maybe they’d like to help lower our national debt?
Repaying the SS trust is not ‘new spending’ it is keeping your promise to return our money, the SS Insurance premiums we paid so that we wouldn’t be destitute when we could no longer work.
Congress ‘borrowed’ those funds, and backed that promise with treasury notes.
That is unless ‘they’ never intended to repay the money they borrowed, which Simpson’s slip of the tongue shows us may be a real possibility.
‘They’ may not have technically stolen our SS trust funds yet, but any attempt to dodge payment on the treasury notes that were exchanged for the cash, which was with-held from our paychecks would constitute an enormous theft that even a smart guy like Simpson will never be able to explain away.
“The AARP Sells Out Again” (October 28, 2005)
I recalled that incident and discussed it with some young folks working for AARP at the time beginning the conversation with “Excuse me but did you know …?”
I feel the same way about Goodwill especially who went corporate in the early/mid 2000s.
(excerpt from “TALLAHASSEE, FL GOODWILL – Joe Eichenlaub” in “[freegeek-startup] Goodwill Refurb / Recyc Progs” on Feb. 25, 2004)
But there’s more … Goodwill, Unicor, BAE and Lockheed appear to share work flow using US prison labor:
Lockheed Fires Back at Prison Labor Charge” (by Justin Rohrlich, Mar. 09, 2011)
Obama thinks that the need to raise the soon-to-be-reached debt ceiling is an Econ 101 no-brainer.
So friends-of-Barry financial geniuses such as Simpson, Geithner, Bernanke, Summers, Dimon, and Immelt will be out front leading the campaign to do so, right?
Does anyone know when the Obama Death Panel for Alan Simpson will convene? I would like to volunteer to be on it.
==modnote: please do not wish ill on anyone==
Agree that it’s THEFT, Margaret, and as you know, some conservatives who post here keep delaiming that we, who paid our hard-earned cash into Soc Sec, are, by some perverted rightwing “logic,” simply not *entitled* to our savings. Drives me nuts. It’s MY money – give it back if you’re not gonna run this exemplary INSURANCE program correctly anymore.
For the record & to be redundant: Soc Sec is NOT an “entitlement.” It’s an Insurance/Annuity program.
Maybe you can petition Sarah Palin to be on THAT Death Panel!! /s
Thanks for the links. Just to add a final comment that most of my rightwing friends/family members still have the vast mis-perception that AARP is this giant LEFTWING/socialist organization and is the scourge of the planet. Typical. When I try to point out that AARP was hijacked long ago by the corporations, they stare at me as if I’m demented (but I guess in their viewpoint, I am demented bc RushGlenn says so).
And so: on it goes…
The American people are the only debtors ‘they’ deem stupid enough to fall for the patriotism schtick.
It reminds me of that classic joke about criminal thinking;
“Wouldn’t you rather just give me my money that you have in your pocket, rather than force me to pull this gun out of my pocket, and rob you, and become a criminal?”
How about silently, in my heart-of-hearts?
Perhaps a badger with shingles?
Huge tax breaks for the uber wealthy financed by
China and paid for by the middle class, its children, grandchildren.
Truly zillions of people thought while G.W. (!!**!!) Bush (if I were a Klingon I’d figure he was from the Duras family) was
giving his State of the Union Addresses that he was straight-faced
making Social Security and Medicare untenable.
Mr. Simpson almost conceivably believes the charade.
The ‘reply’ button is missing so I hope this goes to juliania. I stayed up till 3 in the A.M. that night watching that mess. When I found out Aarp was supporting it I too cancelled my membership immediately. Ironically I received a huge envelope yesterday which I haven’t opened but am sure it is touting all the glorious benefits of joing Aarp..me..I will pass.
Uh-oh sounds like they are hardcore TV watchers. I had a neighbor that played Fox on a big screen TV for company. You could see the glare of the images at least a half mile away. The neighbor could not figure out why the roller coaster of anger, feelings of helplessness and depression. Besides the overt disinformation and hate, there are the subliminals and volume compression. Those techniques are easy to use in film and computer games. Don’t you wonder who’s on the other end of those real-time, multi-player computer games as EverQuest (I overheard one player nicknaming it EverCrack) besides the fact that these can be money laundering operations?
Yes – the payroll savings was proposed to Clinton who changed it into a voluntary 401k for everyone with an annual seeding of 0.5% of income – called it America Saves or some such name and touted it in his State of the Nation – it went nowhere because the GOP hated the idea if it was to be used as an addition to the safety net – they were only interested in setting up a mandatory system that could convert into a replacement.
Viagra or not, something tells me that old limp dick prick couldn’t fu*k his way out of a paper sack.
