Matt Taibbi has another one of his beautiful rants up at Rolling Stone: Why Isn’t Wall Street in Jail?
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/why-isnt-wall-street-in-jail-20110216
Everything’s fucked up, and nobody goes to jail,” he said. “That’s your whole story right there. Hell, you don’t even have to write the rest of it. Just write that.”
I put down my notebook. “Just that?”
“That’s right,” he said, signaling to the waitress for the check. “Everything’s fucked up, and nobody goes to jail. You can end the piece right there.”
Nobody goes to jail. This is the mantra of the financial-crisis era, one that saw virtually every major bank and financial company on Wall Street embroiled in obscene criminal scandals that impoverished millions and collectively destroyed hundreds of billions, in fact, trillions of dollars of the world’s wealth — and nobody went to jail. Nobody, that is, except Bernie Madoff, a flamboyant and pathological celebrity con artist, whose victims happened to be other rich and famous people.
Everything is fucked up and the wrong people go to jail, may actually be the better way of framing the current American status quo:
Rights abuse at Clinton’s Rights talk: Police targeted violence of Christian Vet
According to PCJ, McGovern “was assaulted grabbed from the audience in plain view of her by police and an unidentified official in plain clothes, brutalized and left bleeding in jail.”
Clinton never paused speaking according to PCJ.
“When Secretary Clinton began her speech, Mr. McGovern remained standing silently in the audience and turned his back. Mr. McGovern, a veteran Army officer who also worked as a C.I.A. analyst for 27 years, was wearing a Veterans for Peace t-shirt.
“Blind-sided by security officers who pounced upon him, Mr. McGovern remarked, as he was hauled out the door, “So this is America?” Mr. McGovern is covered with bruises, lacerations and contusions inflicted in the assault.
To hell with the quisling Democrats, but where is the Progressive Caucus?
Bernie Sanders soaked his diaper filibustering the Senate. He spoke for 8 hours, and rested on the 9th. Where were the progressives?
Imagine if the Progressive Caucus announced a marathon reading of a few Matt Taibbi articles on the Government’s coddling of Wall Street crooks and oligarchs. Every hour another member of the caucus, and whomever else in Congress would be interested in participating, let’s say, 100 uninterrupted hours of Taibbi prose belched out from the Capitol Steps. Then, at the end of the 4th day, they would all gather together and secure their reelection by announcing that they’ve all decided to quit. Not, because of some in flagrante trist caught on tape, but because their own personal decency demanded no less.
Mussolini’s ghost is stalking the halls of Congress. If it’s not exorcised, if such an act of patriotism is not embraced then we can hang this quote around their necks: “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable.” —JFK

Nobody but the protestors, the journalists and defense analysts who tell the truth or expose wrongdoing, etc.
Diary + comment. Says. it. all. What a complete fuckup America is right now.
Since you brought up the issue of the disparity between the legal fate of different socio-economic classes in these 50 United Corporate States, let’s parse that into smaller more digestible, but equally ulcer provoking segments:
In this country you can get all of the justice you can afford.
The wealthy do not go to jail unless they steal from the wealthy-it’s an in- or out- class issue: you don’t screw your own-unless you are FDR. And let’s face it: FDR isn’t coming this way again, ever!
The legal system is owned by the wealthy. They paid good, fairly stolen public funds to be able to use their non-expiring ‘get out of jail free’ card: did you really think Monopoly was just a child’s game?
Miss Liberty’s blind justice went out the legal window after Ashcroft covered her naked form: just where the hell did you think he got the ‘cover the breast’ material from?
Equality before the law is an illusion only believed by the common man. Short aside: However, after considering a large majority of common Americans also believe that the universe is about 6,000 years old; evolution never happened-we were planted here like geraniums(I must give credit to the screen play of ‘Inherit the Wind’ by Paddy Chayefsky for that line); a physical entity called Satan is hovering over all of our heads ready to turn us to the dark side; lot’s of virgins give birth every day: if you don’t believe me, just ask them,; a loving, merciful ‘god’ who so loved mankind (the same guy who subjected his son-read that as himself-to a cruel death ) that he/she/it/whatever knowingly dropped mankind into this slaughter house called earth; perhaps the title common is justified.
We have freedom of speech-ask the guy who just got arrested and beaten for silently standing up and turning his back on Hillary. When the Fuhrer speaks, the masses must show the proper degree of respect, or Dachau here we come, Sieg Heil!
Sadly, as we fall faster and further into the abyss of fascism, all of the hype about freedom and equality before the law becomes nothing but feeble sound and impotent fury signifying zip (played a bit with Shakespeare).
A few went in to help Bernie, but damned if I can remember which ones.
Please let’s remember how easy it is for police to get away with shooting or tasing to death black men, too. And torment, imprison and deport undocumented workers (or those who don’t have their green cards with them) from south of the border.
Thanks missling. It’s a great piece and a great idea.
I agree missling. Recommended.
