It’s the fourth quarter and we’re in a tight game. You’ve worked hard and you know what we’re up against. Are you ready to be the teammate who makes a difference? Are you up for the challenge? Envision victory. Be optimistic. Let’s get this done.
Here’s Jane explaining where we are in this fight and the issue we face at this moment in the game.
Take action. We can win this. Follow your president’s advice, "demand action."

“In 1934, while serving in the cabinet, she was made chairwoman of the President’s Committee on Economic Security. A report issued by that committee laid the basis for the Social Security Act. Although it was considered at the time to be a radical departure, the proposal was accepted with enthusiasm by Roosevelt. A petition in favor of the measure was signed by 20 million people”
Surely there are 20 million people in favor of a strong public option. And this goes to the heart of the issue about the right to petition the government about grievances.
It’s time for all progressives to stand up and take action. This may be the most critical issue of our lifetimes as it has been and will be truly a “life and death” issue for us, our families, and our loved ones.
We can’t back down now and we must support this President and take him at his word. He told us that a Public Option was necessary to make the Insurance Companies honest. They have been ANYTHING BUT HONEST over the past 15 years, after promising during the Clinton healthcare debate that they would change the way they did busines.
They did not.
We’re paying 2-3 times more for insurance from a monopoly of one, perhaps two, insurers in every state. They control the market. A Public Option is THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE THIS.
If we pass a “mandate” that all people MUST be covered, and without a public option, we’re doomed and in a much worse position financially than we are presently in. No public option and a mandate for coverage means MEGABUCKS coming in from new subscribers and a young, healthy (non-risk) market for them to drool over. Essentially, we give the Insurance Monopoly a veritable GOLD MINE.
This is not only vulgar and amoral; it’s going to destroy our economy even more than it already has been destroyed.
NO PUBLIC OPTION MEANS NO ‘EFFECTIVE’ HEALTH CARE REFORM. IT ALSO MEANS THAT WE LINE THE INSURANCE MONOPOLY’S POCKETS WITH NEW GOLD.
“take him at his word” ; you’ve got to be kidding, right? And since Obama has already stated that the public option is not a necessary piece of ‘reform’ , you seem confused.
i think that was to “hold his feet to the fire”, remember back in those hopeful days of the election, when he told us to do that?
That CANT be allowed to happen. They are really pushing the “lets do something is better than nothing” line of standard BS, but the insurance industry, apparently, already writes the laws that “regulate” their industry. They block every effort at genuine reform no matter how trivial. How bad will it be when they have another 13 TRILLION DOLLARS, of the peoples money to use against us?
Jacob Hacker on Newshour on Tuesday did terrific job explaining benefits of a public plan to a very aggressive (unusually) Jim Lehrer.
It pisses me off to see how things are shaking out. Because we were railroaded out of single-payer, our best outcome (instead of our compromise position) is a sturdy public option. We all agree that if a strong public option is not included in any prospective bill, we should pass nothing.
So even if we prevent a bad bill from passing, the only real outcomes the crook insurers will get will be the status quo with no restrictions or guarantees, or a bill that guarantees Americans be forced to pay for NO coverage.
IMO, unless we the people demand a strong public option, the game is over. And “demand” means a national boycott of anything and everything the corporate lords market. THAT will get headlines even with this corporate media, as well as results. We are millions, they are thousands.
Is anyone pissed off enough to take physical action? We’ve got about 2 months left-at the outside.
