On Countdown with Keith Olberman (with David Shuster sitting in for Keith), MSNBC presents a clever juxtaposition of on-camera comments by Barack Obama with some made by George Bush. Obama went on five networks to take responsibility ("I screwed up") for the bungled Tom Daschle nomination. Bush, on the other hand, was given several opportunities by the media to apologize for or even acknowledge a mistake–any mistake–that he had ever made as president. He came up empty-handed. And of course, a screwed-up cabinet nomination pales in comparison to Iraq, Katrina, Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, and on and on… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQQwbCDcLFo

MSNBC reports at least 80 dead and 250 wounded in terrorist attacks on at least seven targets in Mumbai, India. Two hotels, a restaurant and a train station were among the targets. Is this the challenge to Obama that Joe Biden promised us would occur?
CNN online reports hostages being held.
Update: Times of India now reporting 900 wounded.
BBC: terrorist group claims responsibility
"The BBC‘s Andrew Whitehead says a claim of responsibility by a little-known group, Deccan Mujhaideen, may harden suspicions that Islamic radicals are involved."
How, if at all, will Obama respond? As he says, we only have one president at a time. What is the President-elect’s proper role, if any?

Once again, the background of a John McCain Campaign official/special interest lobbyist has clashed with the ideals that candidate McConflict has professed to hold. Remember Saddam Hussein? Remember the first Gulf War and the sanctions that followed it? Remember the "Axis of Evil"? Turns out that a high-ranking McCain official, lobbyist William Timmons, who as transition team head would be responsible for selecting people to serve in a McCain administration, has a dirty past:
"William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime. The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein’s government. During the same period beginning in 1992, Timmons worked closely with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil. Timmons, Vincent, and Park stood to share at least $45

Try your hand at political poetry. Here is the link to the contest: LINK
Here are a couple of examples:
I said thanks but no
thanks to the Bridge to Nowhere
Oh, no I didn’t
Shooting polar bears
from a plane is lots of fun
Oh, to see them die!
Can you do better? Give it a try!
