Supporting the Protesters in Madison

Orders for pizza have been pouring in from around the globe to feed the folks in Madison who are protesting in support of workers’ rights … Ian’s Pizza has suspended normal business to handle the volume of orders for pizza to be sent to demonstrators.

There’s more we can do. The UW Teaching Assistants’ Association is helping inside the Capitol and they have a list of supplies they need. (They also have a paypal button, if you’re so inclined.)

The UW Teaching Assistants’ Association also has a page listing other local businesses which have donated food and supplies. I have an especial fondness for co-ops, part of the great midwestern tradition of progressive grassroots action, so i would like to give a shout-out to the Willy Street Coop. I talked to a nice young man there (hi Dan!) and he said they are doing gift cards as well as food donations. I know if i were at the Capitol, as much as i love pizza, i’d sure love some fresh fruit & veggies, trail mix, etc.

And coffee! Don’t forget the coffee!

It is truly heartwarming to see the wave of support and care these hard-working Americans are receiving, unions protect rights for all of us. If the unions are crushed, they’re coming for us next.

I thought it was so cool that supporters in Egypt were ordering pizzas for the protesters in Madison! But it goes beyond that!

There is so much i wish i could do around the world, my heart aches for the people being slaughtered in the mideast. I didn’t have time to do a bigger, more comprehensive diary with those types of links.

This is local for me, it’s my home state, and i hadn’t seen another diary like this, so i took the plunge and made my first diary at FDL.

I’m just peeking in during my lunch break … i might be at LLN if i get home from work early.

Thank you,newfarmgrrrlll ! We just got back from Olympia,Wa rally at the Capital.
Great turnout. 5 hours of travel well spent.
My homemade sign wasn’t the only one fingering Tax Dodgers. We were within a consistent pattern.
Tax Dodgers in USA: Target, BestBuy, Safeway, McDonald’s, FedEx, Apple, Bank of America, Exxon/Mobile to begin the list.
This is my new homeschool assignment. Pick one in my community, edukate myself [ hopefully, with the help of others] and out them.

FYI from Ian’s Pizza’s facebook page, people have mentioned Ohio:

“To donate pizza to your brothers and sisters protesting in Columbus Ohio at the State House today call Cafe Napolitana at 614-224-3013″

and another person responded:

” I just called to verify before reposting: Napolitana only delivers until 3pm; open for pick-up until 6pm.”

Donate food to protesters via Straight2YourDoor
Yesterday I got in touch with Straight2YourDoor, a company that runs delivery service for various Madison restaurants (including one of my favorites, Flavor of India). I asked them to get involved in the efforts to streamline food donations to protesters, and they responded very favorably!

If you want to donate food to protesters from any of the restaurants in the Capitol area that partner with Straight2YourDoor, follow these instructions:

1) Log onto http://www.Straight2YourDoor.com
2) Click “Enter” next to address in the top right corner and enter 2 E Main St Madison, WI Protest (with “protest” as the apt/suite #)
3) Click on the restaurant logo you want to order from
4) After adding items to the cart click checkout
5) Select credit card as the method of payment and enter killthebill into the coupon code section ($3 off!)
6) Click “update”
7) Complete the order by entering in the credit card information & clicking “Place Order”

I know there is a particular desire for vegetarian/vegan and non-pizza options (not that we don’t love Ian’s Pizza, because we totally do). A lot of people were VERY excited to get Thai last night.

We’ll be out there all week, folks, and all food is much appreciated!

Twitter #WIunion and #WIsolidarity could use some extra spam monitoring during the daytime and evening.

Just watch for the clear and obvious ad spambots and porn spambots. Go to the full profile of the account, and click the little cog button on the top right and then report for spam.

I think I’ve tuned in over 100 ad/porn spambots since Friday. There was one Ukrainian guy that was throwing up 10 new Twitter spambot accounts at a time.

We have to try to clean the spambots out. Twitter is notorious for being in fail whale mode a lot. More bandwidth eaten by spambot = more fail whale.

At AmericaBlog they are asking for donations for water. The demonstrators are saying they really need water and have plenty of pizza right now.

Lo, and behold, there’s Americans For Prosperity with active chapters in my state.
I’ll bet the Koch Robber Barons Club is in YOUR state ,too. It’s an infestation.

If anyone is interested in showing SUPPORT for our State employees & unions, a Wisconsin based Special events company (Balloons-2-Move-U n’ More) is planning an “All-American” event at the capitol on Friday. They are looking for individual and corporate sponsors to assist with the free distribution of brown bag apple pies, coffee, chocolate chip cookies and apples for the teachers.
