LIVE Interactive from Germany: Merkel Forms Government With Social Democrats Despite Potential Left Majority — by NormanB (“Deviations from the Norm”)
Correspondent Frederik Blauwhof of the Real News Network filed this report, and will be with us live here online live from Germany momentarily, beginning at 4:30pm EST (1:30pm on the West Coast), to answer reader questions on the German Election results, their consequences, and implications.
Chancellor Angel Merkel’s Christian Democratic Party got 41.6%, their best ever. Her coalition partner, the Right-wing Liberal Party got trounced, and is out of the Government. Left-leaning Parties took the majority of seats in Parliament.
That’s right! The Parties on the Left garnered more than half the seats in the German Parliament. But the Social Democratic Party and Green Party refused to bond in coalition with the more radical Left Party (Linke).
Now, we are glad to have Frederik Blauwhof with us. Please feel free to question him about the German Election and European Union politics.
Please, my fellow FireDogs, if you wonder about Germany or EU or Netherlands politics, here’s an analyst a lot closer to it than we are. Leave your questions and Frederik Blauwhof can answer them below.
