Obama Wants Republican Victory in November, Politico Reporter Tells Hardball — by NormanB ("Deviations from the Norm")

Charles Mahtesian of Politico said tonight, on Chris Matthews’ MSNBC Hardball show, that President Obama’s poll rating (just 38% of likely voters want him re-elected) puts the business community in a dichotomous position: "Right now, they’re going whole hog…" campaigning for Republicans, knowing where it could lead: "…they['d] get a Republican House, because that’s what the President wants;" because: Outrages by the newly-Republican-controlled House of Representatives are exactly what President Obama hopes pin his re-election campaign on in 2012. The reporter insinuated that’s it’s a win-win situation for Republican business owners: Either they’ll get someone like Mitt Romney, or someone who governs far Right of Romney: Barack Obama.

The host and guests completely ignored any possibility that Democrats could dump Obama.

Mahtesian in the same discussion noted that the President appears desperate, with a campaign appearance speaking "to a roomful of student reporters. And he doesn’t like reporters anyway," a fact borne out by Obama’s refusal to hold press conferences: He held none in 2009 after July 22. At the White House website, I only found one listed that occurred in 2010: September 10. Instead of press conferences, the President uses propaganda press briefings by abusive ideologue Robert Fibbs. And when a reporter challenged Gibbs, he got her fired.
