Many of us Dinerzens knew that SD hadn’t been feeling well and was going to the VA on Saturday. He was admitted with atrial fibrillation. It was a close call, but he is going to be ok. After several tests they also found that he has developed emphysema.
He wanted to let all of us know that he is not sure how long they are going to keep him, but that he is going to be fine.
His friend Joe is going to take care of the cats, so SD can rest easy. He will be back with us just as soon as he can.

SD, get better soon, Bro! It’s times like this that make us veterans fortunate to have the VA, talk about a benefit none of us expected back then. I can’t imagine where I would be otherwise. I am told that there are only two physicians in the County (Travis, TX) where I reside that will even take new medicare patients, and both are at Community Clinics.
It sure sounds as if we’re in the same boat health-wise-old and falling apart. What was it they said about living so long? I learned that my AF was due to a prescription they had given me. The Cardiologist told me that it was colloquially referred to as “Holiday Heart” since drinking could aggravate it and an increase was often seen after major holidays.
I don’t know what the blog etiquette is for these situations. If someone speaks to SD between now and then we could ask SD if he minds? Otherwise, I’m thinking we should wait.
Anyone else have a thought on that? ‘Cause I don’t know…

My 85 year old mother was recently treated for it in the Mayo Clinic and is doing fine. I am wishing you all the best.
I cannot start a day without lurkin in the corner booth at the Diner without my FDL friends. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

And with the greatest efficiency. It could be a model for everybody but the health care industry hates it because VA doctors don’t get rich and the VA can negotiate drug prices.

The grandbaby is fine, thanks! Eats and sleeps and smiles, not at all colicky like his dad was, thank goodness. I’m a happy camper :)

OmAli,thank you, thank you! I, too, just got done with work (at home) after a busy day, and went to check in on the Diner, hoping for a mention of how SD was doing, what the doctor found, etc.
I panicked, of course. Sent a message to SD and posted one to Suze on FB…she sent me here.
Wait, without SD having a cell, how the heck did you track him down? (oh, well, don’t need to reveal secrets here) Just glad you did. I was worried already by yesterday, and when I saw he hadn’t posted since Friday’s diner, well…you know.
Whew. I worried about the kittehs, too, of course. So good to know both are being taken care of. When SD feels well enough, hope seeing all the comments here let him know how well-loved he is around this place.

Hoping they treat you right SD!
There’s a very useful online support community for heart diseases amongst others at a spot called Inspire – great place to get input on meds or such from smart folks. I rely on the women’s heart disease community there to keep me on track.
Ask as well about any cardiac rehab options – when they offer it, it’s a great help for getting better!

I suspect that it will be around for a few days. If it were a run-of-the-mill diary (I know, we all think our diaries should be mandatory reading) topic, then it would get the normal two or so day run. This affects the FDL society, and we want to support our members. If he gets out in a week, it will probably be an update to this one.
