You’re wrong:

Saturday Night Live is a comedy show. It’s not Meet the Press. It doesn’t "ask the tough questions" or "set the agenda." It attempts, with varying degrees of success, to make people laugh. That’s it. . . .

If you think an appearance on Saturday Night Live would sway voters and actually affect the outcome of the election, you may have more contempt for the electorate of this country than the Republican National Committee does. And that’s a lot of contempt.

Most Americans don’t watch CNN, MSNBC, Fox. Nor do they watch the nightly news. Saturday Night Live, in addition  to The Daily Show, Leno, and Letterman, do more to set the national conversation. Tina Fey’s portrial of Sarah Palin has done more to knock down her approval ratings than any news story.

Comedians  are able to speak the truth is ways reporters can’t because they can hide reality behind humor. This often makes Weekend Update more accurate than NBC Nightly News. To ignore the political impact of SNL, is simply ignoring reality.

(I’m not suggesting you should have spit in her face - just don’t ignore the political impact of comedy.)
