An Election Day spirit of optimism is infectious.I feel it around me – its as if all at once an eight year burden is being lifted from our shoulders.
Tomorrow we might wake up in an America where we can trust our leaders, an America slightly more popular in the rest of the world, an America wher we on’t have to worry about a another appointment of a Supreme Court Justice who will strip women of their rights. I hope I wake up in that America tomorrow.

I am still pondering what will happen if the problems at the polls lead to a McCain victory, despite massive amounts of evidence that such a thing will not happen. The problems in Pennsylvania indicate that efforts to stop violations of state law as applied to paper balloting were insufficient. I’ve heard a lot about teams of lawyers in the field to counter such problems, and nothing about how the problems are being taken care of today.
Besides that I’m incredibly optimistic. We may have enough of a majority to overcome all of the suppression and illegal tactics. It sure would be nice if we didn’t need a couple million extra votes to get our candidate elected though. I hope everyone, EVERYONE, will join together in demanding an election standards overhaul if Obama is elected.
“we can trust our leaders”; sorry, but in 44 years of voting and living, I can’t think of ANY reason to trust the U.S. government no matter who is President. And we shouldn’t ‘trust’ as the price of liberty is eternal vigilance. And ‘trust’ without ‘verification’ leads to further despotism.
