Today we saw a few of the torture memos, the documents bush canvased for so he could commit crimes against our country, her constitution, her future, her past and crimes against humanity
We know with no doubt these crimes were not only committed, they were pre-meditated and they even went out of their way shopping for someone with a degree in law to give them what they believed would be cover for their crimes
Those of us who have been at the lake for a while know most of us were calling for the impeachment of these depraved individuals, we also remember the lame excuse for not prosecuting in a trial of impeachment;
"We would never win a conviction, the senate is too divided"
to which most of us, myself among the most vocal would answer;
"exposing crimes against this country and her future will force their hand, if they want re-election they will have to vote to impeach"
Which many thought was pure speculation, however I answered that criticism;
"we need to document these crimes even if impeachment fails"
Now we see with very little doubt, impeachment would have been an easy success
These are sick depraved sociopaths we had in office and our country, her national security, her position as fair brokers of international affairs, her reputation and integrity have suffered a harm that is irreparable
And what price?
every person you torture creates more terrorists, ten fold, every relative, every friend, every friend’s friend becomes a terrorist against your cause
even if you did happen to stop an event, (where you would have stopped far more with other methods) through each person you torture you have created dozens if not hundreds and then thousands more events
and anyone who agreed with your cause before your policies of torture would with no doubt NOT inform you of events for fear of being tortured themselves
THE ONLY PURPOSE OF TORTURE IS TO PERPETUATE INSURGENCY,
that is the ONLY purpose and they knew it
We will be paying dividends against these crimes for generations, we will face attacks, we will face terrorists, and they will amass for time untold because of these crimes
Our enemies will use our own past to justify torture of our soldiers and civilians they gather up for what ever reason they choose, just as Bush gathered innocent civilians for this pleasure of his, for this pleasure of Cheney’s, for their pleasure of torture
Cheney, Yoo, Rumsfeld, all participants must be brought to the bar of justice for what they have done to our country and humanity
I have said a number of times;
"I would like to ask those who visited these crimes against our country, if we were to ask, "suppose we administered these techniques on your own person, how long do you think it would take for you to shout at the top of your lungs you are being tortured and that those torturing you were criminals?"
They would not submit to the tactics they claim are justified, nor should they, committing these acts are crimes against all that we know
Back to the purpose of this thread;
I doubt anyone now thinks this administration would have submitted to impeachment before resigning much less survive the trial
I blame pelosi more now then ever

Very good point the WH can’t claim their covered by a legal opinion they shopped for.
Sure we will just have the trial on C-Span heck get Gonzo or Cheney and everyone will broadcast the trial.
Not to many GOPers will want to risk defending them with an election coming up.
Actually, Perris I think you mean “Wouldn’t have been convicted.” I think the trial of Jay Bybee ought to take about fifteen minutes.
Impeachment Manager: Mr. Bybee, did you sign the memorandum dated August 1, 2002 to Mr. Rizzo of the CIA?
Bybee: Yes, I did.
IM: Did you author the memorandum?
Bybee: Yes, I did (Or, I did the final wordsmithing on it or whatever.)
IM: Thank you, Mr. Bybee. We move that the Memorandum of August 1, 2002 from Mr Bybee to Mr Rizzo be admitted as People’s Exhibit A. The People rest, Mr. President.
Excellent, perris.
Yeah, I talked until I was blue in the face about this. My kids walked away (well, except my young son. He actually learned how to debate and back up his facts), my friends talked about everything else under the sun, relatives rolled their eyes.
I’m still going, now talking shit about Obama. Why? Because he became a war criminal with the first civilian death in Pakistan. His hands are dirty with the blood of the Executive Branch now too and I don’t expect he’ll be too eager to put people from that branch in the dock.
BTW, Jay Bybee is a Brigham Young boy, all washed in the blood as it were. Wonder how close he is to Bishop Orrin Hatch. That’s one vote he’ll have in a Senate trial.
I did not know that when the US asks other countries to take Guantanamo prisoners, the country supports them; not the US. After suffering at Guantanamo there is no financial compensation for these men? Bet this letter was not one of the ten that Obama is given to read daily.
***************
” A former Guantanamo inmate has built a new life for himself, working in an Italian snack bar on Albanian soil, along with four of his fellow Uighur Muslims. He’s become a spokesman of sorts, and he hopes to go into business for himself.
Abu Bakker, along with hundreds of other terrorism suspects from around the world, was incarcerated for four years at the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay. For the past three years, he’s been living in Albania, the only nation that would accept after his release in 2006. Here this pious upholsterer has found a new task in life. Three times a week, the Uighur Muslim kneads pizza dough for Tirana’s Islamic community at McGusto Halall, a snack bar on Hoxha Tahsim Street.
He sent an open letter to “Dear Mr. President” Barack Obama more than two weeks ago. In the letter, he, Abu Bakker from Xinjian, the “Land where the Sun Rises,” boldly addressed the most powerful man on earth. He was not writing to settle a score with the country that had kept him prisoner for many years, as a self-described innocent man. Instead, Abu Bakker politely petitioned for the release of his countrymen and expressed admiration for Barack Obama, because, as he wrote, “you, like I, without considering the end of your long journey, have managed to become a hero. I am on your side. I am proud of you.”
The Albanian government still pays for Abu Bakker’s apartment, as well as a telephone card, so that he can hear the voice of his wife in Yining and those of their twins, who are now nine years old and whom he has never seen. But the government assistance will be discontinued at the end of the year, and then Abu Bakker will be on his own. “
