Oh my. Mike Huckabee is not happy:
“This is economic terrorism,” said Mike Huckabee, the former pastor, governor and presidential contender, who is a paid CGBG consultant. “To try to destroy a business because you don’t like some of the customers is, to me, unbelievably un-American,” he said in an interview.
The “this” of his ire was a LGBT-led campaign to pressure companies like Microsoft, Apple, Macys, and Wal-Mart to end their participation in the Charity Give Back Group (CGBG), formerly known as the Christian Values Network. So why is the campaign un-American “economic terrorism?
CGBG promotes the products of participating companies to its supporters, and the companies agree to funnel a portion of the proceeds from the sales of their wares back to a number of anti-gay organizations from the religious right, like James Dobson’s Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council — an organization designated a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. [Update: edited for more clarity.]
But Mike . . . boycotts are “economic terrorism”? Really?
I guess that makes James Dobson an unbelievably un-American economic terrorist for the Focus on the Family boycott of Disney [pdf], along with the unbelievably un-American American Family Association, the unbelievably un-American Catholic League, the unbelievably un-American Citizens for a Better America, the unbelievably un-American Concerned Women for America, and the unbelievably un-American Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
Here’s the SBC’s 1997 terrorist manifesto, Mike. The unbelievably un-American economic terrorist Richard Land was at the heart of implementing that manifesto, crafting and mailing propaganda to his co-conspirators, urging them to channel the anger of their followers and recruit them for the cause.
I’m no fan of Dobson, Land, et al., though.
I prefer the unbelievably un-American economic terrorism of Martin Luther King Jr. myself. When the white-owned businesses in Birmingham in the early 1960s told King and other black leaders, “We’d love to let you folks sit at our lunch counters, but we don’t want to offend our customers or get involved in politics,” unbelievably un-American economic terrorism ensued. This being pre-9/11, the preferred term used by Bull Connor and his all-American defenders of freedom was “outside agitators” instead of “unbelievably un-American economic terrorists” but the idea was the same.
It makes me wonder how much CGBG is paying Huckabee these days to “consult” like this.
Or . . .
*donning tin foil hat*
Maybe Huckabee is a Manchurian Consultant, secretly recruited by Teh Gay Agenda to undermine the already shaky credibility of the Homophobic-American community.
Maybe I shouldn’t have outed him like this. My bad.

Oh, and then there were those unbelievably un-American economic terrorists in Boston, back in the day.
It’s telling that CBGB felt the perceived need to change its name. One might think it’s trying to hide its true mission from the general public.
Changing your name to conceal your real purpose is as American as apple pie and Blackwater…er, Xe.
When ever we do something thats effective the GOP normally resposds class warefare or accuse us of being bullies calling us terrorists is a new one:)
Huckabee needs to be careful how many abortion bombers, Gay Bashers who kill people, the Klan etc have similar views to the groups whoose funding we are trying to cut? How many were actual members of these groups?
Does Huckabee want us to dig?
Huckabee pardoned a guy who later became a Cop Killer I belive in part because the killer claimed he found God.
In what world does it make sense for Christian Hate groups to want Huckabee to defend them?
In 2007, ABC News reported on the role that Huckabee’s religious beliefs may have played in his decisions to support early release of so many prisoners:
“None of the prosecutors were ever told why Huckabee felt compelled to have a hand in freeing so many prisoners, though all of them speculate that his deeply religiousGover nature led to a strong belief in repentance and forgiveness. In some cases, prosecutors say, evangelical leaders attested that a prisoner had found Jesus and that seemed to influence the governor’s thoughts.”

Huckabee had difficulty understanding the concern when he learned that he remarried while in prison to a church going woman!
“His final wife, Terry Sue, met him while he was in prison in Arkansas, visiting him as part of a church group which supported his release from prison. During his parole, after he was widowed, they married and lived together in Missouri, where he committed his final crimes.
“Governor Mike Huckabee…became a cause celebre among some evangelical Christians in Arkansas after DuMond claimed to have undergone a religious conversion ~ Wikipedia

Anyone who gives to a Christian who Huckabee supports with a history of supporting violence or hate should worry that they might be linked to Huckabee’s next bad decision regarding Christian nutcases.
Huckabee will say just about anything for a buck.
And I think he’s got his panties in a twist over ‘economic terrorists’ who play for his own team too. Poor Huck, in for a buck.
boycotting is incredibly american. Protesting is very American. WTH huck?
(still have recovered from the Squirrel BBQ in a popcorn popper story from the huckster…)
The attack means the boycott is perceived as effective.
Isn’t Huckabee irrellevant?
In the dictionary, next to “irrelevant” there is a picture of Huckabee. So I suppose you are correct.
Geez, isn’t Huckabee on the trash heap of history. Who cares about him anymore.
well, I think “Hee-Bee-Gee-Bee” was already taken ~ so they went with CBGB. No?
Irrelevant or irreverent or both?
Huckabee what’s your position on Abortion? And on the death penalty?
From the ’97 manifesto: “WHEREAS, The virtues promoted by Disney have contributed to the development of a generation of Americans who have come to expect and demand high levels of moral and virtuous leadership from The Disney Company; . . .”
Ye gods, these folks don’t even understand economics, so they can’t be in much of a position to criticize it one way or the other. They do however, understand authoritarianism very well.
Actually you are correct. I am secretary of the Department of Homeland Celebrity (DHC). A small, not widely known sub- department of the National Endowment for th Arts.
Huckabee has lost his celebrity status.
WWJD
On one side are angry gay-rights advocates and bloggers, wielding the club of the gay community’s purchasing power.
On the other side are conservative Christian groups that say they are being attacked for their legitimate biblical views of sex and marriage, as well as a Web marketing firm that feels trampled for providing consumers with free choice.
I wonder who has the numbers?
“This was important to them, and we were willing to reconsider,” she said, adding that Delta had a history of supporting gay and lesbian causes.
“We don’t want to engage in a political debate,” Ms. Singley said. “And we just thought we were flying airplanes.”
Its sad the Christian Hate groups can’t get a GOP Presidential Candidate to weigh in on their side and are stuck with Huckabee I’m guessing the GOP’s private polling on this issue is that bad:)
It ain’t the size of the dog in the fight…it’s the size of the fight in the dog.
And I didn’t even know Huckabee was gay!
