i completely agree… i feel myself having hope for the first time in a long time because something is happening. i see it in the populist posters generated from the #OWS movement and this… very well could become a defining moment. it has that kind of power.
Powerful video but sadly it won’t make a difference. Anti choice lawmakers will make her carry her baby but they won’t do anything to help her raise it. Ironic, isn’t it that women aren’t capable of making the decision to terminate a pregnancy on their own but when it comes to supporting the child, they should “stand on their own two feet”. The meaning will be lost on them because like all ideologues, they are irrational when it comes to their ideology.

well… we never know where exactly the tipping point is. but i’m pretty sure, with Komen, Limbaugh, and now something like this giving voice… creating an anthem… it could be a perfect storm.
one can always hope. i’ve been so cynical for so much of this decade that i’m just enjoying the smallest chance this could change the game for the better.

DEFINITELY! The backlash is growing stronger and who knows where it will end and what it will bring us? I was referring more to the Oklahoma lawmakers she was addressing though, not the general public. Her video might make it so there are fewer ideologues in Congress but it won’t change their minds or opinions, even if it costs them their seats. Sorry I was unclear.

Won’t make a dent with these folks. They hate women, they hate that they are sexual beings and they blame them for every action of both sexes. They are patriarchal and simply intend to oppress.
Wow. I shared it on Facebook and am sure others will as well. I am way more than 40 and find it truly unbelievabe that these clowns are trying to take us back to the dark ages and getting away with a lot of it by such dirty tricks. Keep fighting for women’s rights.

It won’t matter if this goes viral, the representatives and senators in Oklahoma will never understand what the hub-bub is about. After all, she let him, didn’t she? So, she has to take the consequences now.
Funny how there are never any consequences for the boys.

We only need a tipping point portion of the electorate to understand. There are thousands of stories out there just like this young woman’s. Woman who were forced to face the consequences of a pregnancy afraid and made the best decision they thought possible. It’s absolutely unconscionable that other people feel that they can and should play God and judge her. Not only that, but if you truly believe in the Bible then standing judgement on her for her “sins” means that you will have to stand tall for your own and can expect the same “leniency” you gave to other souls.
There are times like this comment of yours, in regards to a worthy diary or comment indeed, but you just rise ONE more level above the fray.
I have always liked that in you and about you.

She’s really railing against Christianity. Won’t wash in this country, unfortunately.
It’s not Christianity, she’s railing against. The tenets of Christianity are tolerance, compassion, and forgiveness. She’s not railing against those things, she’s railing FOR THEM. What she is railing against are the hypocrisy of judging and convicting a person when you don’t understand their motivations or aren’t going to have to live with the consequences of their decision. In short, she’s she’s railing against a certain segment of the population that are arrogant enough to consider themselves the arbitrators of what God wants and are speaking for Him as if they are Him.

Actually I guess I should correct myself. Replace ‘conservatives’ with ‘politicians’.
(I actually know some conservatives in the sense of real conservativism, who are simply cautious about changing things until they know it’s going to improve a situation or solve a problem — I’m like that myself)
