As we settle into our Turkey Day here in the Great White North — and it really is white this year; this is the first time we’ve had snow on the ground for Thanksgiving since I don’t know when — and think of recounts past and present, I’m thankful for some comedy relief on the part of Norm “Pot Kettle Black” Coleman giving failed Alaska teabagger Republican Joe Miller some friendly advice:
“I think at a certain point in time, you have to have some finality to these things. It should be time to move on. There’s not much that you can gain by extending the process.”
Two things spring immediately to mind: . . .
1) This is kinda like Alec Baldwin giving anger-management lessons to Rahm Emanuel.
2) Norm’s advice might be better addressed to Tom Emmer, the failed Minnesota teabagger Republican.
Speaking of the current election and recount, and of pots calling kettles black, Steve Singiser points out the utter silliness of the people running the notoriously biased and often inaccurate Gallup poll daring to think they had standing to critique the Humphrey Institute’s polling practices.
In closing, I want to say that I am thankful for Al Franken, whose Senatorial career may have been inspired by Paul Wellstone, but whose intelligence, work ethic and political skills remind me of a Teddy Kennedy minus the mistresses.

Great post, Phoenix Woman, I was so looking forward to your take on this news. Let me simply add: “… or the Oldsmobiles.”
I am waiting for the point in history when Minnesota is still counting the votes for an election after the term of office has already expired. :)
Ha!
The ability of Team GOP to pull that off has been severely circumscribed. Not that they aren’t trying.
First off, the ability to make frivolous challenges of ballots has been curtailed. That alone should save a few weeks if not months. Secondly, the lawsuits the Republican Party of Minnesota filed against various counties have backfired, making the Republicans look even pettier than usual, so as of this writing most if not all have been dropped. Thirdly, the current configuration of the Minnesota Supreme Court is not any friendlier to bullshit than was the 2008 configuration, as was shown this week.
Well, apparent good nooze from up there PW! Too kewl.
What a vid . . . three part harmony . . . a Richrd Thompson so young I didn’t recognize him . . . great song and well done lads.
Love that band, with or without Mz. Denny bless her soul and voice.

We do need to do something about funny polls its funny they almost always favor GOPers or Blue Dogs.

You got snow we didn’t in Chicago its been years since I’ve seen a White Thanksgiving but as a kid we had them every year.
Of course global warming is fake never mind all the birds that don’t bother to migrate south until maybe december if at all.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the good Pups here at the Lake! ☺ ☺ ☺
Just what GOP moneyman is banking all these court challenges and why does Minnesota get all this GOP attention?
Karl did say he thinks Minnesota should be in the GOP column are his donor’s the money men?
Does Karl think Nordic types will over come their socialist in Europe leanings and join his not so secret white power crusade? Because in Karl’s mind at least everything is about ingroups and race?
It must burn Karl to think Nordic types are not on board with His world order.

when I become a politician I believe I will be more like teh kennedy then franken
except for the drowing of said mistress part, otherwise, mistresses a plenty
though to be fair, I am not married
oh
I want to wish everyone a happy and comunist/socialist thanksgiving today
didn’t someone yesterday say edit was back?
NOW I can’t even find the button
Can I give Coleman credit for publicly admitting his error? Even if it is implicit?
I grew up in Chicago as well, and iirc, few white Thanksgivings. Sometimes, not even a white Christmas although rare.
Anyway, this is where global warming turns the corner and we can all breathe a big sigh of relief (NOT!).
I just ran some weather cams looks at Minneapolis. Really cold and snowy! We just recovered from a very small snow and freezing rain event, which is the more common scenario here, although not this early. Usually around the first week in January, with some events actually making Christmas white.
Enjoy your day!
“I want to say that I am thankful for Al Franken.”
May we have at least one Al Franken in California, please? I’d ask for two, but I don’t want to be too greedy.
Any time he wants to relocate, Al Franken would be more than welcome to move here to Wyoming! We are outnumbered about two to one by Republicans, but us progressives always welcome a kindred spirit! Here it is white and WINDY, with 30 below zero wind chills, so bring a parka! Happy Thanksgiving to all.
30 below?!! Don’t go outside!
Wellstone was murdered. Then Coleman “won” electronically rigged election. Then GOP got its Senate majority. Crime pays and makes way for war crimes in invasion and occupation of Iraq.
Now that Franken has established his bona fides, can we please see him on MTP, MoJo, any and all gasbag shows to articulate the Democratic message that the last crop of Democratic “talking heads” so miserably failed to do?
Franken is from the Democratic wing of the Democratic party. More please.
what, and ruin their ‘narrative’?
Just a drive by on my way to bed to say thanks for the music choice. Put me in a contemplative mood…1970 – sort of my baseline year, I got married (the first time) and went to work — felt like the year I began my adult life.
Clicked through the videos at the bottom of the vid after “Be Thankful” ended…and there was Sandy Denny with “Who Knows Where the Time Goes.”
And now, after that nostalgic interlude, I must be off – actually working tomorrow.
Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving…I did…made stuff *I* wanted to eat, for a change. Lovely.
And a cold front dropped us here in S Tex from 80 at 4:00 pm to 46 at 10 pm. Brrrrr! (ducking from the northerners here)
