Remember how, earlier this month, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney tried to get a kinda-sort credit for being gay-friendly when he hired Roy Cohn Award recipient Richard Grenell to be his go-to guy for foreign policy?
Well, even a self-hating gay man was too much for the TheoCons who make up the GOP’s voter and volunteer base, so out he goes.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Grenell decided to resign after being kept under wraps during a time when national security issues, including the president’s ad concerning Osama bin Laden, had emerged front and center in the campaign.
Pieces in two conservative publications, the National Review and Daily Caller, reflected the uproar by some social conservatives over the appointment.
In the National Review, Matthew J. Franck wrote late last week: “Suppose Barack Obama comes out — as Grenell wishes he would — in favor of same-sex marriage in his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. How fast and how publicly will Richard Grenell decamp from Romney to Obama?”
Remember, the National Review is supposedly the acme of level-headed conservative political thought and intellectual achievement. And this is what they think of Richard Grenell. If this is what they’re saying, imagine what the “values voters” are saying.
Buh-bye, Richard.

Oh sorry, *that* kind of ‘out’! But dpesn’t it just figure.
That’s a bad sing for Romney. If he can’t impose his will on the GOP they will ruin his candidacy right quick.
A-yep.
Somehow “gay” and “republican” don’t belong together. I wonder if Mr. Grenell has learned anything.
Who knows….but maybe there are some moderately sane who can see the ridiculous here…some of those Rs have kids or grandkids who are gay and may not like shabby treatment. Bigotry is not a nice trait….
Poor guy. He didn’t even have a chance to say anything stupid.
You should check out the tweets he scrubbed from his Twitter. Psychotic screechy queen would be a kind description of him. This guy is a load of stupid ready to explode.
No one could have anticipated . . .
I think you’re right on. Now, why can’t I seem to feel bad for poor Mitt? I’ve been waiting for his lies and bullshit about doing a good job in Massachusetts to get thrown in the sunshine. Now something else might spoil my fun.
Meh. I followed him on twitter for a bit during the debates so I checked out his website and some of his posts. he’s a very ugly person on the inside and when you hear him speak it oozes out.
He was backstage with the PR team for Romney and he was tweeting pics and discussing how effecitive Romney’s pandering to Sheldon Adelson was. He trying to steal him away from Newt. Thats where I learned that Romney has zero scruples and he disgusted the candidates. No wonder why they wont endorse him.
Nothing to feel bad about. It’s on Romney. He’s making his choices. If he lets the GOP loons run his campaign he may as well pack it in today. His opportunity is to be seen restoring the GOP to sanity. The American People would appreciate that. If Romney is too Obama-esque to take charge then so be it. We already have a coward in the White House. No need to replace one with another.
Summing up, Mr. Grenell is an “out” and “out” asswipe.
