Reading the Tea Leaves on Zimmerman’s Lawyers

9:46 am in Uncategorized by Phoenix Woman

News that George Zimmerman’s lawyers have bailed on him, allegedly because he hasn’t been in contact with them for a few days, comes right as we find that Z’s been chatting up the right-wing media stars, in a move that would give his former attorneys headaches were they still representing him.

Now, did the lawyers bail because he’s an idiot who won’t shut up, or is his not shutting up a result of his lawyers bailing on him because he has no money, honey?

Attorneys of my acquaintance are of the belief that Zimmerman’s attorneys left once it became clear that he was broker than broke — hence his website fundraising efforts. But I can’t help but wonder if his inability to keep his lips zipped is a factor as well. (UPDATE: Now it appears that Zimmerman is on the run, even as it appears that he’s about to be charged in Trayvon Martin’s shooting death.)

Speaking of money, isn’t it interesting that, for all the right-wing media promotion of Zimmerman as misunderstood Everyman hero, not one right-wing sugar daddy has, as far as we know, stepped forward with cash in hand to aid Zimmerman in his plight? If every conservative talk-show host or website proprietor who has defended Zimmerman verbally had backed up those verbal defenses with cold hard cash, I suspect Zimmerman’s lawyers would likely still be with him today. I have a feeling that they like Zimmerman mainly as a club to use against anyone they think is a liberal.

White Supremacist Hacks Trayvon Martin’s E-mail, Social Media Sites

This is beyond sickening:

The racist smear campaign against Trayvon Martin, the unarmed black teen shot to death last month in Florida, has reached a new level of ghoulishness. A white supremacist hacker says he’s broken into Martin’s email and social networking accounts, and leaked his private Facebook messages. We’ve been able to confirm that at least one email account that belonged to Martin was cracked.

The hacker, who goes by the name Klanklannon, posted what he said were Martin’s private Facebook messages to the politics section (NSFW) of the anarchic message board 4chan—called “/pol/”—Tuesday afternoon at around noon. The messages were posted on four slides, strategically arranged to back up the insane racist argument that Trayvon was a Scary Black Teenager and so somehow deserved to be killed by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman that night.

However, the hacker had to carefully cherry-pick even to get the mild stuff he found. Which means that he left out things like this:

But Klanklannon included none of Martin’s emails in his leak, because the picture they paint is of a normal high school junior preparing for college. A screenshot of Trayvon’s Gmail inbox our source provided us is heartbreaking. Martin apparently used his Gmail account for his college search, and it’s filled with emails about upcoming SAT tests and scholarship applications. (“Trayvon, now is the best time to take the SATs!”) One email included the results of a career aptitude test, our source said. It “talked about his interest in aeronautics and stuff.”

Klanklannon has proven nothing more than the depths to which the racist amateur detectives who have spent days obsessing over every aspect of Trayvon Martin’s short life will sink in their horrible quest to vet a dead teenager.

Words fail me.

Police Video of Trayvon Martin’s Killer Shows No Visible — Much Less Severe — Injuries

One of the tropes most often used by the right-wing and often blatantly racist defenders of George Zimmerman, the man who shot an unarmed Trayvon Martin to death in a Florida gated community last month, was that Zimmerman was allegedly beaten to a bloody pulp by the 17-year-old boy he killed: Punched in the nose hard enough for it to break, knocked down, head slammed into the ground, dripping blood from his various wounds.

The tale of Zimmerman’s many serious wounds was already in question: For one thing, he refused medical attention when it was offered to him. And now, thanks to the release of this police surveillance video, we can now see that the tale of the bloodily-beaten Zimmerman is just so much nonsense:

A police surveillance video taken the night that Trayvon Martin was shot dead shows no blood or bruises on George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who says he shot Martin after he was punched in the nose, knocked down and had his head slammed into the ground.

The surveillance video, which was obtained exclusively by ABC News, shows Zimmerman arriving in a police cruiser. As he exits the car, his hands are cuffed behind his back. Zimmerman is frisked and then led down a series of hallways, still cuffed.

The initial police report noted that Zimmerman was bleeding from the back of the head and nose, and after medical attention it was decided that he was in good enough condition to travel in a police cruiser to the Sanford, Fla., police station for questioning.

His lawyer later insisted that Zimmerman’s nose had been broken in his scuffle with 17-year-old Martin.

In the video an officer is seen pausing to look at the back of Zimmerman’s head, but no abrasions or blood can be seen in the video and he did not check into the emergency room following the police questioning.

Now granted, if Zimmerman really did have his head slammed to the ground, that could have caused a serious closed-head injury, the severity of which would not be visible on the outside of his head. But one would expect, if that were the case, that the officers on the scene — who presumably would have noted any odd concussion-related behavior Zimmerman would have exhibited during the six-odd hours he was in police custody — would have overridden his refusal of medical treatment and taken him to a hospital.

Gee, no wonder why Zimmerman’s lawyer Craig Sonner didn’t dare face Lawrence O’Donnell the other day on MSNBC.

That Photo Montage Slandering Trayvon? Stormfront Created It.

I. Am. Seriously. Angry.

Twenty minutes ago, a friend of mine was looking at another friend’s Facebook page wherein was posted, minus my red-fonted editorial comments, the photo montage above. The intent was obviously to chip away at the reputation of Trayvon Martin, the young (and unarmed) black teen shot to death by George Zimmerman last month in Sanford, Florida.

Having experience with the right-wing underground smear industry, which usually plies its poison via e-mails but which occasionally surfaces publicly, I suspected the montage was built around a blatant lie. And thirty seconds later, thanks to the magic of Google, my suspicions were confirmed via Strollerderby:

Suffice it to say, the discussion surrounding the Trayvon Martin shooting is racially charged, even if the incident itself wasn’t. I personally find the latter assertion quite hard to believe, given that it’s likely Zimmerman uttered a racial slur during his 911 call and that as protesters have pointed out, it’s highly unlikely that a white teen in a hoodie would have looked as “suspicious” as Martin did to Zimmerman. Additionally, it’s hard for me to swallow that those who allegedly want to remove race from the equation are the same people who create images like those to the left, which try even harder to paint Trayvon as a black thug who deserved to die – especially given the fact that the photo on the bottom right of this composite questioning media bias is not actually of Trayvon Martin. It’s the fabrication of racist website Stormfront.

Did your blood just simultaneously run hot and cold when you read that, dear reader? Mine, too.

For those that don’t know, the people behind Stormfront are Nazis. Real, genuine Nazis, with more than a taste of Confederacy nostalgia mixed in. And they’re the ones slandering Trayvon Martin’s memory.

It gets worse:

Another composite of the bottom two photos you see above reads, “Many people are outraged that a white man shot a black man. There is only one problem with that statement; The shooter IS NOT white. So why the call to hate white people over this?” Though the claim that the photo of the kid flipping off the camera is Trayvon Martin has already been debunked on several sites, including the Miami New Times’ site, they note that, “If you’re screwed up enough to believe that a 17-year-old unarmed kid deserved to die because he once wore sagging shorts and flipped off the camera, then you’re going to keep sharing that image regardless of who it depicts.”

So, just in case your wingnut brother-in-law posts a similar montage slandering Trayvon Martin — who, being dead, can’t fight back — do feel free to shove this in your wingnut brother-in-law’s face. Please.
