Part of what is fun about being an Independent is that I can speak out against Glenn Beck, and actually be taken seriously. Beck calls himself an Indie, but anyone who speaks at GOPAC is far from it; so let’s call bullshit on Beck’s Indie status immediately.
I’m about to call BS on Beck for something else. Can you tell how giddy I am about it?
Let’s just jump right to his own words:
"I beg you, look for the words "social justice" or "economic justice" on your church web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. Now, the idea, hang on, am I advising people to leave their church… yes!… If you have a priest that is pushing social justice, go find another parish."
So we’re at it again, are we, Glenn? Stirring up more McCarthyism bullshit? Need you a reminder of how McCarthy ended up? Speaking of which, McCarthy died in 1957; when was Glenn Beck born? No matter. Now he wants you to leave the Catholic church.
The first evidence of Beck’s bullshit is that the Catholic Church has always been one of the staunchest enemies of communism, and got that reputation because Joseph Kennedy was so strongly opposed to it, and Kennedy and McCarthy were very close friends. As Joseph McCarthy’s crusade against communism grew in the US, the vast majority of American Catholics supported his views, and he received strong support from many leading Catholics, diocesan newspapers, and Catholic journals.
But Beck wants churchgoers, especially Catholics, to leave their churches if two simple words, "social justice", are found anywhere in their literature. Because, you know, the Catholic Church is a communist front.
Beck, you wouldn’t understand Christianity at its roots even if Jesus himself sat you down for a decade and explained it to you. Why do you even bother going to a church.? In the end, your conclusion will be that Jesus Christ was a communist. We certainly know he was all for wealth redistribution, telling followers over and over to give their money to the poor.
And there it is.
That is the crux of Glenn Beck’s angst against the church. This isn’t about communism. It’s about Glenn Beck protecting his wealth from the greedy poor, who, you know, are knocking on his door every five minutes for a handout. It’s about the church’s millenniums-old beatitude of giving to those less fortunate. Glenn Beck doesn’t BELIEVE in giving to the less fortunate. In fact, Glenn Beck doesn’t even believe in the less fortunate. He believes the poor are poor because they are lazy, not because they are less fortunate.
This is the foundation of everything Glenn Beck says or does. He is not an Independent, nor is he a kind man. He doesn’t have America’s best interests at heart, but if he can get his hands on your wallet, he’ll do it faster than you can say "what the fuck?"
Glenn Beck is now and has always been about Glenn Beck’s wallet. That’s it. That’s why he wants you to stop going to church. Because he wants to stop going to church. Because he doesn’t want to be reminded that the church’s first mission is to the poor. No sane churchgoer would have a problem with the words "social justice" if they understood it to mean "carrying forth the mission of Christ". But to Glenn Beck, "social justice" means he’s going to have to give some of his money to the poor, and he doesn’t like that one bit. Ω

Poor Glen Beck, stretched his little neck, and shit about a peck, said what the heck and shit another peck.
To bad the shit came from His pie hole, and not his bung hole.
Glenn Beck needs no more than the fact that the terms “social justice” and “socialism” sound similar to justify spouting his bullshit. Funnily, if the wealthy in this country were to embrace the Catholic Church’s views on social justice, our capitalist system would be far better off than it is today as a result of years of the “rational egoism” garbage.
This guy is no different than Rush Limpballs. They make all this money and then try to act like they are one of the guys. BS. Limpballs is trying to sell a apartment here in New York for over 14 million dollars. My goodness, and then they don’t want to help the less fortunate.
Looks like Beck hasn’t read the words printed in red. Why am I not surprised?
I would like to point out that Glenn Beck is a Mormon (just as Senator Orrin Hatch(et), and as such is required to give tithing to the church. Presumably the tithing is meant to, among other things, distribute food and other necessities to those church members in need. I wonder if Mr. Beck is aware that his money (I assume that as a good Mormon he is paying his tithing) is going to feed the poor – oh no, Glenn is a participant in providing “social justice”. I believe I have just succeeded in unmasking the fact that Glenn Beck is secretly a “socialist”.
Well done Gabrielle!
Good point, and actually, any Christian church worth it’s salt encourages (but usually doesn’t “require”) tithing as well.
I am not a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, but my limited exposure to it (via church member friends) is that what you propose is correct. Some part of the Mormon tithing goes to assist the poor. However, I also *think* that is mainly given to other Mormons (not saying the church doesn’t help others; frankly, I’m not sure; but what I’ve heard from Mormon friends is that the bulk goes to the church, and then some portion goes to assist Mormons in need).
So, in Glenn’s purview, this would probably “fit” because it is only helping those sanctified by his “group,” and the money is not necessarily going to those dreaded poors who are ruining everything for all the obscenely wealthy, like him.
Shorter: Glenn Beck’s a very weird, overly highly paid, corporate shill @$$hole.
Why anyone listens to him is beyond me, but I agree that he’s incredibly popular. shudder…
A church the doesn’t defend the poor and preach the social gospel is just the republicans at prayer, not a real christian church.
