Some must reading today, this op-ed in the New York Tmes: Dear A.I.G., I Quit!
Add this to Matt Taibbi’s Rolling Stone article that cuts through the jargon b.s. and smoke and mirrors to explain so even I can understand how we got where we are.
And, this commentary over at Oxdown Gazette from Selise: Dear Congress, Your Hearings Suck! [and isn't that Dilbert cartoon great]
.
We have tons of school kids and college students in the process of saving Fargo and Moorhead from going underwater even as I type…they’re coming in on buses over 100 miles away, too… we owe the next generation bigtime, and Fargo’s experience truly shows that.
Paying them back starts with fixing the same ol’ same ol’ crap in Washington.

I’m not sure the letter sheds any new light on what’s going on with the public money. As a recipient of public money, I’m not sure he’s in a position to donate it to charities of his choosing. I’m not sure he’s authorized to do that, at this point.
As a long-time self-employed professional, I cry crocodile tears for this guy.
I’m sorry, I just wish him well in his next endeavors.
I’m sorry, he had a long run and made a lot of money. Compare his situation with that of a clerk at Lehman Bros or WaMu or any other failed financial institution, not their fault either and they didn’t get eight years of huge bonuses, or any bonus at all for that matter, they just got the door and unemployment.
This letter is complete crap! It is full of too many minutiae to be a real resignation letter and sounds like it is your typical GOP history revision, in an effort to narrow the blame for the corruption of AIG-FP.
I haven’t seen any reporting on how this letter came to the attention of the NYT, and I imagine there isn’t much of a story. It’s a plant to distract.
I’m sure this guy has had his bubble pop a little, being a commodities trader and all. As innocent as he tries to make himself sound, I wonder how much he personally had to do with the spike in oil last year. AIG was big time into oil speculation, and at his level, I’m sure he was a player. He says he quit–maybe he’s getting fired for reduced contribution to profits over last year in his division.
