Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, on discussions he has had with a firm from Spain on leasing the city’s water rights and operating system to them:
It whets your appetite, the things they see that we don’t see.
References: Blog article by Whet Moser (links to report and many related articles) on the report of the City Inspector General on the lease of the city’s parking meter system to a spinoff of Morgan Stanley.
Among other fine points, seems that the lease carried with it a transfer of substantial control over the public right of way and of the parking revenues collected on the streets with meters on them.
Thread music: Link to La Camorra I by Astor Piazzolla, performed from the hara per the composer’s example by a youth ensemble. Keep playing, guys!

Pretty soon foreign company’s will own our pottyies, and will we have to pay to go.
What’s wrong, is lf our politicains can’t run these things profitable, they shouldn’t be our politicains. It should be a crime to sell or lease anythibg to a foreign interest, no butts, plain and simple. Politicians hwo even consider such things should be removed from office.
