Yeah, YOU, Senator Joe Lieberman.
I’m going to say this as s-l-o-w-l-y as possible and enunciate clearly to make this easy for you.
HEALTH CARE REFORM IS A COST REDUCTION.
HEALTH CARE REFORM IS A BUSINESS STIMULUS.
ESPECIALLY FOR SMALL BUSINESSES, THE CREATOR OF MOST NEW JOBS.
WE NEED HEALTH CARE REFORM RIGHT NOW.
I don’t know who let you off the leash and took off your muzzle so you could talk trash about waiting on health care reform until economic conditions improved. But we’re going to have to talk with the powers that be and have you spanked and removed from your chairmanships.
I suspect you got a call from the corrupt Karl Rove requesting you slow down or stop health care reform; he probably called you once again and called in a chit, reminding you who helped buy your current term in office after you blew off the will of the Democratic voters in your state in 2006.
Or maybe your corporate overlords had their way with you and whispered sweet nothings in your ears which sounded like threats to fundraising for your next run. You really should get your hearing checked, because even with more insurance industry PAC money I doubt you have a chance in hell in your state this next cycle. We are going to make it much, MUCH harder than we did last time, you can bank on it and start planning your retirement.
Look, every single business in this country (other than the insurance industry whispering in your ear) is PAYING TOO MUCH FOR HEALTH CARE. It really, REALLY hurts small businesses, which represent more than 50% of non-farm workforce payroll and can make more than 1.5 million jobs a year in a good year.
It’s a form of unofficial business TAX, savvy? One business owners didn’t vote for. One they must accept because there is no competitive option.
The current cost of health care in this country is making business owners non-competitive.
It’s driving jobs overseas.
It’s cutting into American businesses’ ability to innovate new products and make new America jobs.
And in spite of paying more per capita for health care — that’s per each individual American, in case I am using words that are too big and unfamiliar to you, Lieberman — at roughly $7300 per person we are paying more than any other country in the world.
Yet we die earlier on average than citizens of other developed countries, and we don’t provide coverage for 50 million Americans (that’s the equivalent of 16 states without coverage — and some of them vote in your state).
50 Americans die every damned day because they don’t have health care, and some of them are voters in your state, too. Do you think the 50 Americans who’ll die tomorrow or the day after for lack of health care think we should wait for reform until economic conditions improve?
Do you, Senator?
Something is terribly wrong here, and it’s as plain as day.
We shouldn’t have senators who are either too stupid or too corrupt to understand how bad our current health care system is and how much it’s hurting our country not to have reform RIGHT NOW.
We shouldn’t have senators who think it’s okay for voters to die rather than get them health care reform right now.
Seriously, how stupid or corrupt does a senator have to be to see that the delay advocated might be killing the very voters needed to win the next term?
2012 cannot come soon enough.

But he’s with us on everything but the war!
Yeah. Su-ure. Un-huh.
Lieberman’s a whore; he’s with whomever is waiving the wallet under his nose, or whomever has purchased the ring in his nasal septum.
I remember thinking, when obama and the dems welcomed senator moron back into the caucus and gave him his chair back, that barrak is one “macheavelian” dude. (sorry for the use of “macheavellian”, i wont do it again i promise). Boy hes got senator moron right he wants him! i wouldnt want to mess with that cat! God, was i wrong. Lieberman not only hasnt voted with the dems, he’s on tour with john mcain again, i noticed at a mcain press thing the other day. Lieberman is DARING us, like a dunking stool clown, to sink him. I dont know much about conn politics ohter than they are above average crooked, but is there any chance he can be dealt with at the state level?
The most important thing Connecticut voters can do right now is rally behind a solid candidate AND begin fundraising. One of the biggest challenges in a race against entrenched incumbents is building enough name recognition early in a cycle so that the candidate can make real inroads against the “stickiness” of an incumbent. Without a solid, well-vetted candidate throwing their name formally in the hat, it’s tough to overcome the “stickiness.”
Money also makes a difference when there’s a lot of corporate PAC money throwing behind a candidate. It would be great to get a head start on building funding for the eventual candidate within each local party office as well as each progressive activist organization.
There’s going to have to be some party discipline applied between now and then, to squeeze recalcitrants like Lieberman. It’s going to take the learnings of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu and a host of other tacticians and philosophers to keep this little yappy ill-behaved dog from answering the dog-whistle of corporate and Republican masters. Maybe we need Caesar the Dog-Whisperer on retainer…
You know what really torques me off about this bastard? I swear he’s doing this crap because of Teddy Kennedy’s illness. If we had a full complement of Dem senators at full health, could Lieberman get away with this crap?
This is really the lowest of lows, even for this dirt bag sad sack.
Fantastic post. Loved it.
Do you think Alex Baldwin really will run against him.
Blessings and thanks for reminding us of the JL scum reality.
Since I’m not from Connecticut, I don’t know much about the current dynamics on the ground for the next senate race. Unlike Joe Lieberman, I respect CT Dems and I’ll be very happy to throw some money and effort behind the candidate CT Dems choose; they did a great job last time with Ned Lamont. If CT Dems choose Alec Baldwin, so be it, but Baldwin will have to earn their faith and the slot in the primary just like any other candidate.
Great post Rayne. I really enjoyed the way you laid out that guy.
Rayne, I’m shocked, shocked at such language.
That should be Dear Mr. Senator Moron.
/snark
Great job!
Maybe the leaders of the democratic party in Connecticut will do what the good people of Montana did. (since there’s nobody in Senator Moron’s party)
JimWhite (8) — “Mr.” is a title of respect and I don’t respect the man. I respect the office and unfortunately Karl Rove helped buy Joey “Short Ride” Lieberman the office. So I’m stuck referring to him as Senator. Wish I could be more snarky about it.
LooHoo (9) — I hope the Dems and eventually independents and moderate Republicans realize they can pool their power and do much better than Joe-without-a-party. It’s hurting us all that independents and moderates couldn’t see Joe for what he was and is.
go Rayne!
There’s a typo…it’s “Moran,” silly.

Thanks, Ellie (11)!
bonkers (12) — you know, I thought of that now-classic graphic, but the man is so stupid and greedy that he wouldn’t realize this piece was addressed to him unless it actually contained a photo of him in flagrante delicto.
[Senator Lieberman, “in flagrante delicto” means “caught in the act,” okay? I’m sure you’re familiar with political blowjobs, yes?]
Hi Rayne,
Unfortunately, you’ve misunderestimated Lieberman.
He’s a whore, not a moron.
Hi, PPDCUS. See my comment at (2). I think you’ll see we agree.
I dunno, I think if you spelled out Mr and put quotes around it, it would be insulting. It would make it clear you don’t think he’s anything like a real Mr.
Dear “Mister” Senator Moran ….
