Here it is, the post in full from her Facebook page so you don’t have to look it up; Liz Cheney asks her peeps to help whip votes against legislation going to vote today in the House which would institute criminal penalties for torture. Will nothing stop the Cheneys’ thirst for human suffering?
Statement From Liz Cheney On Late-Night Provision In Intelligence Bill
Today at 11:27am
Today, Liz Cheney, the chairman of Keep America Safe, released the following statement on behalf of the organization and in response to a late-night provision added to the intelligence authorization bill in the House of Representatives. The bill is scheduled for a vote later this afternoon. It is currently being debated in the House, click here to watch Rep. Pete Hoekstra talk about the dangerous provision: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aFP5_4g7LU.
"Late last night, Democrats in the House of Representatives inserted a provision dubbed “The Cruel, Inhuman, and Degrading Interrogation Act of 2010” into the intelligence authorization bill. This new language targets the US intelligence community with criminal penalties for using methods they have deemed necessary for keeping America safe. These methods have further been found by the Department of Justice to be both legal and in keeping with our international obligations.
"American intelligence officers do not deserve this kind of treatment from the government they honorably serve. Day in and day out, they protect our country and make difficult decisions–at times in matters of life and death. In return for their service the government rewards them with little pay and no acknowledgement of their heroic actions. Democrats in Congress now want to threaten them with criminal prosecutions and deprive them of valuable tactics that protect America.
"We urge the Congress to vote against the intelligence authorization bill in its current form."
Keep America Safe
Ugh. Obviously, you need to contact your members of Congress IMMEDIATELY and tell them to do the opposite of whatever Liz Cheney advocates. Otherwise Americans will never, ever regain their moral stature in the eyes of the world, and other countries will feel entirely within their own rights to torture detained Americans.
Marc Ambinder at The Atlantic claims the White House is against this; if you’re one of those anti-Obama types, here’s your chance to go head-to-head against him. If you’re an anti-torture type, well, get on the phone.
