In the blink of an eye, the Firedoglake Membership Program turned 1-year old today, and I can hardly believe it.
On this day of March in 2011, only 5 quick months after I began working for Firedoglake, we launched our membership drive. We had over 500 members join within the first week, and an additional 300 in the second week. It was an amazing heartfelt success, as people were pledging to help make Firedoglake sustainable for years.
By joining membership, whether you all know it or not, you have helped to bring on new writers, support our staff, allow for more petitions and actions to take place, and encouraged us to grow as a news source. Due to your support, we can continue to look into the future, instead of being unsure if the future was in our sights. It also allows us to stay independent, free from outside influence and alternative motifs.

A birthday is an amazing time to look back at your success stories from the year, but an even better time to reflect. To think about how you can make yourself better, stronger, healthier, and in membership’s case, helpful.
I only wish we were able to have a physical birthday party for the Membership program, but this post will have to do for now. One of the things to put on our birthday wish list is to have a large meet-up one day for all members.

Yay! Happy Birthday!
I joined day one. FDL is where I go daily for the REAL TRUTH in the NEWS. Of course the live Blogging has been simply amazing! The support given to the #Occupy has been outstanding! All of the great writers bloggers and programs is all made possible by the Membership and their generous donations. This is by far the best online community on the InterTubes bar none.
So what are waiting for?? Join NOW!! And don’t forget to ask for the Swag for joining!!!

Please someone at membership check your email and please please please somehow fix the mess mentioned there.
I’ve never, EVER, gotten overdraft fees and don’t want them now.
I DID cancel my membership on August 8, 2011.

That seems pretty clear to me. And I’ve alread seen a $40 charge on my bank account for an overdraft.
Dammit I love FDL. I swear I do.
But money has become a HUGE ISSUE in my life after a major shake up last summer. I simply can’t afford the continued monthly donation OR the membership.
I will gladly stop coming here but dammit this is NOT RIGHT.
I cancelled my membership LAST AUGUST and now, for the first time ever, I’ve got an overdraft fee on my bank account.

Ellie, thanks for you commment! I am just happy to be part of all of this and its Firedoglake and all its amazing writers (and editors) who are growing this membership program.
Thank you, and I just looked again and there is no $40 overdraft fee showing up.
Somehow another charge that was on there as pending dropped off and technically now I’m not over drafted even with the membership. But when that other charge shows back up (and it will) if this isn’t fixed I’ll be overdrafted then.
I got to make phone calls yesterday and thank a number of people for becoming members. It was a nice experience. I especially enjoyed hearing people talk about the work members wanted FDL to keep doing.
So, here’s to another great year at FDL and, to all new members, thank you for joining.

Sorry I missed your call yesterday afternoon (I think that was you: from the 574 area code), but I was at work when I heard the ring and was too swamped at the moment to pick up.
It’s like 70 here in NYC today (!!!!) – better make it ice cream cake.
This morning I got an e-mail saying that this year’s membership had been put on my credit card. Was so delighted because I was going to ask someone today if we had to re-up or something. Thanks for taking care of that automatically.
I enjoy putting in my little bit so that I can yammer here and learn “stuff.” Thanks for all the hard work of everyone involved.

My #17 was intended for Kevin’s #12. Oops!
So I get an email called an ‘Invoice Receipt’ (for renewal) with the amount, and expressed in language that reads like the billing service has been outsourced to someone only vaguely familiar with the English language. And evidently it’s my responsibility to know which credit card account has been charged. Okay, I can do that. Lucky FDL: that account expired, the new card arrived last week, and I activated it the other day.
